PMSL! You photographed the wrong one!!! That's only about a 3 - 4,000TEU (twenty foot unit)

Anyway, Maersk Sealand is the Euro freighter service.

This is the Emma Maersk...which sailed into Felixstowe today....the above is not the Emma Maersk.

Obviously this is lacking containers...

Thats the best looking supra I've seen so far!

oh dear god. we have nerds in our mix.

pictures dont do em justice, a few years back i was fishing on a 36' boat in the middle of the chanel, and HMS ark royal came past about 1/4 mile away, massive,

still amazing how they can be made of metal and some are 100's of thousand tonnes and still float.

How many conatiners can these things hold????

Yeah, we've been quietly infiltrating the place for years... and now it belongs to us. NYYYYYYYYYYYYIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Er, sorry, got a bit carried away there.

Depends what generation they were and what routes they were designed for. The Emma Maersk can carry some 12,000 TEU (Twenty foot equivelant units).

Most conventional ones at the moment carry around 8,000TEU.

No, I happen to work in the industry. It's by business to know stuff like that as I manage their port operations.

That was taken when the ship was brand spanking new and going to be loaded, we finished working on the Emma Maersk (SS Santa to all you saddo's :D ) at 5 this morning having turned around something like 3k containers in 24 hours, god we're good. And to be honest it doesnt look that much bigger than the average container ship we get at Felixstowe but it was seen as a good publicity oppourtunity so they made a fuss about it.

Well if you likebig things this is what i drive for a living.

If you read the above caption you'll see it says 'lacking containers'. That was at the end of her delivery voyage from China.

Do you you work on the Gantry cranes/straddle carriers?

Do you you work on the Gantry cranes/straddle carriers?

Currently driving a tug for Felixstowe Dock but over the years I have done most jobs there from berth op to crane driver. Who do you work for Si? I did a similar job to you for Geest North Sea Lines as operations supervisor, first job of the day was to collect ships bag and kick all the old slappers off the boat.

Oh excellent! I'm quite pally with the guys at Svitzer Marine (tug operators in the Bristol Channel) and go out on the tugs from time to time. I'm a ships agent for Inchcape Shipping Services.
