FFS!! When's it gonna end??

Just to put you in the picture, I need a new main shaft for my manual gearbox. However, the shaft which is "the only one" Nissan can supply, has an incorrect fitment. The ring which is supposed to fit on the end is the *same* as my original ones!! - And does not fit the end of the *new* main shaft! My Nissan main dealers answer (from headoffice) is to replace *everything* back as far as the first set of bearings on the counter shaft!! (Which will cost 1029 quid!!)

Anyway - Nissan UK says "We don't know anything about pre-92 Nissans as Nissan UK didnt startup until 1992", "you'll have to contact Nissan Japan"....

..so here's the email I'm gonna send: (See what you think)

(to: webmaster@nissan.co.jp)

Hi,

I've been asked to contact Nissan Japan, since neither my local dealer, or Nissan UK can help with sourcing some parts for my 1991 UK spec Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo. VIN:- JN10RGZ32U0002601

I require a new Main shaft for my manual gearbox, part code - 32200 (£157 + VAT). This part was ordered by my local Nissan dealer, which when delivered was found to be the wrong fit, as it is a different shape to the original (Where the ring fits on the end, the tapered section is too large for the *new* replacement ring to fit).

I do have photos to show what I mean, but will send these if required.

I'm now being told by by main dealer, that a replacement is not possible as the part has been superseded, and I will have to buy ALL of these additional parts:

Counter gear £232.00

3rd gear £132.00

4 springs £14.40

Baulk ring £35.90

Synchro hub £72.40

Coupling sleeve £65.30

3rd gear fork £39.70

2 bearings £81.00

(other parts) £200.00 (gaskets and other bearings)

additional labour £200

GRAND TOTAL: £1072.70 + VAT

Why can I not buy the ONE part for £157.00, instead of spending £1229.70?? Especially since all the 'older' baulk rings etc are still available? (A brand new gearbox is £1,500, and would be cheaper to buy a new gearbox than all the parts required and labour to fix my current box).

This I find most frustrating, as I am without my car, and have been for 4 weeks now, as it has taken this long for my local Nissan dealer to source the so far incorrect parts!

Can you provide a NEW main shaft that is the SAME as what I currently have? If not why not, as I do not wish to spend over a thousand pounds on unnecessary parts and labour, just to get my car working again. If this is the case, then I consider Nissan at fault, and should honour me with a very reduced price for a new gearbox, to compensate for the inconvenience and frustration caused.

Please, please get back to me as soon as possible, as I consider this issue of utmost importance.

Regards,

Mr S Williams.

Ipswich, England.

that sucks. Why not get those parts through Courtesy Nissan?

It is much cheaper.

Well, I'll see what reply I get back from Nissan.

Also, my main dealer is ordering another main shaft "just in case" it was sent in error! I'm not feeling too hopeful that the correct part should suddenly come to life though!

Still.....I'll wait a bit longer.

Because Warren Courtesy would probably take a while to ship those bits from over the pond! Bummer!

Send the mail mate, if you're contacting Nissan in Japan you need to be cool, calm and collected but that reads OK to me.

Let us know how you get on.

How the fuck do Skylark owners manage to run their cars with less parts availability than us and our cars(majority) are sodding UK spec??? mad.gif

oh, I forgot - why not get the part from Mike Feeney? He seems to have encyclopaedic knowledge (and, I understand, Japanese and US fiche sets to go with the UK ones). And he's Tech something or other to the ZClub www.zclub.net

According to Nissan SA www.nissan.co.za they sell refurbished gearboxes at fairly attractive prices and when I last looked it appeared to cover Zeds. Might be worth chucking that into the mix and enquiring why they don't do the same for the UK.
