Evening all,

For those of you that use Limewire - can you optimise your download speed using the settings within Limewire?

For some reason I'm only getting speeds of 25-50Kb/s recently, I've seen 150Kb/s in the past but recently its rubbish, any ideas why? I've no other problems with d/l speeds outside of P2P? Got a 4.5Mb line and the download times are the same as when I had 0.5Mb

Cheers in advance

Pete

Are you using the Pro version or the freebie Pete?

i had an 8meg line and still only got silly slow speed d/l, it all depends on how fast the person your downloading from can upload the info, if you've got a 4mb line and the other person is on dial up, you will only be able to d/l at there speed.

this might be why your getting crap d/l speed.... however i might be talking complete c**p.

Yeah I thought that at first Neil but it's every file I try :( And if there are like 100 sources then upload speed shouldn't be a problem surely?

Steve - the freebie, I'd feel too naughty limewiring the pro version! Wouldn't the PC, or the universe, turn inside out or something?:p

Bizarre as it sounds (or maybe not if you know me), it's only after reading that post Pete, that it occurred to me you could do that! I'm an idjeet. LOL!  :p

LOL  The free version has a number of "imposed limitations" on searches and download speeds. If you are downloading from a site the same time as a Pro user, your download will always take a lower priority. The Pro version does make a big difference to performance in my experience (and it's pretty cheap as well  )

Not sure that this explains why your speed has dropped recently though. I know that Limewire were imposing restrictions on accounts that downloaded too much porn ;) That may just be a coincidence though

I don't use it mainly as i know two people personaly who got taken to court for using it.

I use bittorrent BUT if you insist on using it, download methlabs peer guardian 2 and keep that running without the http lock on it and keep it updated and it stops government servers connecting to your pc.

Good little program
