Guys can you help

Just bought myself a ford escort '91 1.6 carburetor model. Problem is that it isn't ideling at all, but other than that is running fine. Can you suggest any sites that I can look at or can any one offer advice.

Sounds like the Carb needs some Attention mate - I could try and explain but if you dont know anythiing about carbs it aint a trivial matter.

 

Best bet is to buy a haynes man - Only about 16 quid and always comes in handy !

Thanks for your help, yeah the haynes manual seems the way to go, know it sounds tight fisted but want to speed as little as possible on the £400 heap!!

Geoff - cheers went to local library and there it was - did a search for the 300zx and would you believe couldn't find it anywere. apparently there was a copy but its been out on loan for 6 years to a guy trying to cure his erratic idle problem!!

lookin in my haynes for this car, it says

poor or erratic idle......

1/ weak mixture

2/ leak in intake manifold

3/ leak in distributor vacuum pipe

4/ leak in crankcase extractor hose

5/ leak in brake servo hose

6/ emission control system defect

7/ faulty air cleaner air temperature control

 

hope this helps, but as with nearly all fault diagnosis reasons, more often that not its none of the above, happy hunting..

a service for an escort would probably cost you £30, it might be worth doing that?
