Warren,

It took me some working out when I first saw it but it means 'wide open throtle'

Sorry Steve and the rest of the guys,

Working silly hours at the moment.

Yup, fuel consumption has dropped through the floor hehe.

I am getting the bodywork finished on saturday, overspray cleaned up and polished etc.

The next step is to get the adjustable tie rods fitted. I will also get some shims/washers fitted to the upper arms to correct the camber a little. Sway bar bushes fitted also. I have found some play in one of the track rod ends so I will order them first before I get the work done. And then obviously an alignment setup.

I don't know what to do about the engine. It pulls strong without detonation but is VERY lumpy and vibrates some what at idle. The CAS is still way out (fully to the left @ 15 degrees). I'm just tempted to leave it as it is and put up with it unless someone is willing to take it all apart and check the timing again. Maciej, many thanks for your help on this. All we can think of is the timing is not adjusted correctly which I doubt very very much or the timing is slightly off at the crank. Don't know what to do m8. The engine stinks of oil after a long run because its leaking from the back, near the top somewhere. This engine has been through so much shit because of all the W^%&^&RS i've taken it to. Not including Darren of course. I'm just tempted to wait for it to go bang and then just replace it and do the turbos at the same time. If anyone is brave enough to re-check the timing belt alignment then I'll be around your gaff like a shot! All the money I have spent just trying to fix the engine/detonation problem over the past 18 months, I could have easily bought a decent low mileage engine with turbos. REALLY!

It will also be going back soon to sort the O/D problem out on the tranny. I am going to get a new speed sensor, replace all other solenoids that havn't been replaced yet. Process of elimination and that.

Then I need to replace the prop shaft and the rear diff seal thats leaking. I just can't seem to keep up with it!

The brakes also need an overhaul.......

Have you sorted your wheels out yet?

Andy

PS. I want more power !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Anders,

Did you check the timing at a fully warmed up engine?

Is your coolant sensor clean and within spec?

I'm wondering this because ECU may adjust the timing due to bad coolant sensor or detonation sensor.

It would be best if you could borrow a Techtom MDM-100 and

check the timing after it shows 15degr. on the display.

The Techtom will show you what ECU expects the timing to be.

It can be a bit hard to check due to the "lumpy idle", as you said.

The idle speed should be around 800RPM when checking timing.

Also, look at the timing marks perpendicular the pulley.

Let us know if you find something out.

Hi Maciej,

It was set up with a Nissan consult by a decent Nissan mechanic. There is nothing this guy can't do on a Z and even he was confused as to the problem. It was dark and getting late so we were in no position to strip it all out and check the belt again. The idle is stable. It just sounds very lumpy and vibrates more than it should. Its definitely not related to anything else because all we did was change the timing belt. I might just try adjusting the CAS and see if it makes a difference. It is maxed out to the left so I can't really go wrong.

Cheers

Andy

hmmmm lumpy idle got a set of jun racing cams and havent told anyone huh anders lol

Hi Anders,

Hm...you were working in the dark?... 8-)

OK, if you had the Consult then the timing is set right I suppose.

Leave the CAS as it is, since you've got 15degr timing now.

If you strip it down later on, check the crank pulley

if it's the right one (as in that post on tt.net I showed you).

Good luck!

Maciej

Maciej,

Well, Darren the mechanic was doing the work, I was just holding the light for him!

Warren,

I know this engine had a top end rebuild in Japan before I got it. You might not be far wrong! Who knows what was replaced? Dunno if that would cause the CAS to be way out though?

Andy
