Hey guys,

Just put on my new discs and pads ad serviced the calipers. When i took the brakes off by the way, I pinched the squishy brake pipe so no air can get in.

The callipers have squeezed the pads back on to the disc but when the pedal is left for a few moments it will go straight to the floor with not much difficulty, but when pumped it gets normal pressure.

Any ideas?

I take it you have bled the brakes when you reconnected the calipers?

Check for leaking fluid around the areas you've been working ;)

Bleed it again, and then do it again!

Same happened to me mate.

same happened to me. i ended up taking it to the local nissan garage to get it sorted. local garage just couldn't get it right

I need to do mine again as something just dont feel right. Although it passed mot.

Done mine twice now. Dont forget the abs unit in the boot (do this last 2 nipples on it)

Just sounds like air in the system. Keep bleeing!!!

Blee blee blee.... nah that didn't work....... lets try bleeding them instead :D

ask a woman to help they can bleed for a week and still no better after

Sounds like it could be a fooked master cylinder. sometimes happens when the brake lines are disturbed, but try bleeding it first as most folk are suggesting

hope you did,nt push the pistons back before you undid the nipple first, iff you did it sounds like you,ve upset the seal in the master

Hey mate, long time no speak!

No i pinched the soft brake lines to close them, then i undid the nipple on the calipers then removed them, i pushed the cylinders back in a vice afterwards. When i reconnected the brake lnes i had all the lines back on the caliper and the nipple screwed back in and a friends foot was applying pressure to the brake pedal. Then i nremoved the clamps from the line and gently undid the nipple. I closed it and asked him to lift his foot then reapply pressure and bled again. I don't understand how air can have got into the system cos i didn't allow it. If i'd emptied the system i could understand why i had to bleed the abs in the boot but i didn't.

Any ideas at all?

Checked for leaks? Especially the hard lines that go to the caliper from the rubber lines?

Yup I've checked everything, had my mate pumpin like a ho on friday night, and nothing escaped from any of the lines. I'm a bit lost!

Sounds like master cylinder seals then....

shit

Try bleeding a bit more first though...

Try pumping nice and slow and only half a pedal, sometimes if you break up the air bubbles they take for ever to bleed out.

you could try back bleeding.get a new oil can, fill it with brake fluid and graft a peice of pipe onto the can nozzle.connect the pipe to the open nipple and squirt the trigger.watch the resovoir for bubbles.when the fluid level starts to rise all the air will be out.

10ltrs of dot 4 later.......... just replace the master cylinder seal kit, and then it should bleed up no problem.

Problem with that idea is that i have absolutely no idea how to replace the master cylinder seals or whats involved! Help!

Other thing is have you actually tried the brakes. we had problems years ago with crappy brake pedal after fitting the manufacturers pads on one type of motor, the pedal felt spongy with excessive travel I found that after a test run the brakes started to bed in and the pedal came up.

If the pedal on your Z is just a bit spongy but there is reserve travel then I would say try this if you are certain that there are no leaks, but if the pedal is dropping to the floor as you suggest dont even try this. If this is the case it deffinately sounds like the master cylinder. to replace the seals isnt a big job, a bit fiddly to remove the cylinder, if you dont want to risk changing the seals try and get hold of a good second hand master cylinder of the forum traders.

however a seal kit is usually a straightforward job (not replaced a Z kit myself but have done it on lots of other motors) just watch the old bits as they come out and fit the new ones the same way

Thank you, i'll have a think tonight while i'm at work!
