jap spec parts charge

Just been to my local Nelsons to order a rad bottom hose for my UK auto. Fainted and cancelled when he got to the price(£51 + VAT).

I asked about the search charge for JSpec cars and he showed me the memo. and he actually felt it was justified as people were using the dealers to get the Pt No and then buying it elsewhere cheaper. That was before we found the price for the hose!

The memo actually says one charge covers up to 10 items, so a bit of integration for people needing bits and it could be as cheap as £3. per person.

Hope this is a help.

I hear that the pricing can also be variable. Reports of between £25-£40, although it is unclear which figures include VAT.

My recommendation would be to use someone who doesn't charge this extortionate figure, usually gives a discount on the prices and knows the parts catalouges inside out. I have Mike Feeney at MJP in mind, but there may be others.

The form I got from my Mandela says

Grey Import Enquiry Form

Please note this enquiry is subject to a £25 plus VAT charge.

bryane is right - the form has space for 10 parts. If you want 11, then that's another £25 plus VAT.

All this does is a) irritate me like something that irritates me a lot and b) gives more business to Mike Feeney who seems to know his stuff and give discounts. Oh, AndyP just said that. Sorry.

I have also used Japarts who were fine and will probably use Courtesy Nissan and similar. All thanks to the advice from this here forum! biggrin.gif

Interestingly whilst getting parts from my local Nissan parts dept. the guy showed me a flyer they have received from S&E motorsport offering to do the same parts enquirey service for Nissan dealers for £10:00 can not stop enterprise can you? offered to do it for £9:50 (joke) he said waiting to see what other companies join in! CAUTION this could mean rip off situation where dealer charges £25+ for a parts search and uses another source for less than half that!!

I have just phoned a Nissan dealers and spoken to someone I know pretty well. I asked about Grey Imports and the £25 charge.

He said that they have received memo's regarding this charge direct from Nissan.

The reason is he said,"Nissan said sod purchasers, if they want to buy cheap imports and not U.K. models they can suffer".

He also said that "they will not rush to find part number's, and that the search can often take upto 3 weeks".

He also said that "they are going to bump up the prices of parts".

The excuse that was given for this is "in different countries climates differ a great deal and they would add and change parts according to the climate".

I also played the dumb woman and said that I assumed that all Z's were the same under the bonnet, he said that "they are definetly not".Many parts are different and depended on where the car was made.

I suggest that if this is the attitude of Nissan to future parts purchasers, find your self a reliable and dependable supplier quickly and stick with him.

For me I'm lucky my Nelson doesn't screw me over and takes care of the car. But even so, for anything other than service items I buy anything I need off MJP or Smithy. They don't rip you off with charges or high prices!
