My mot certificate is one letter out on the registration. Basically it ends with a g instead of a h.

 

I tried to renew my tax online but it didn't work, maybe because my mot details are under the wrong reg?

 

Anyway do you think I'll have a problem getting my tax over the counter?

Yep your cert is not valid get back to the MOT station and get it fixed !!!

Ok the problem is that the people who sold me the car also got it mot'd. It's been done with the new mot certificate though so do I still need to go back to the original people who did it? Cus I'm gonna guess that they won't be very helpfull.

If it was done with the new MOT system, then I'm suprised that it actually managed to process with the wrong reg number. Unless there's another Zed with an almost identical reg to yours.

Could they possibly have faked an mot with the new system? or even mot'd a different car? To be honest I don't trust them very much and I think I got lucky that my car wasn't a mechanical nightmare.

I'd give the DVLA a call and get it checked out. Have a look on the DVLA website. Type in the reg number and the make/model and see what it gives you. Click here

doubt they faked it mate... i mot at least 200 vehicles a month and its a genuine mistake.... but cars should be automated MOT certificates hard to stuff up... if it was hand written you would understnd it

 

go back to them, get them to change it and make sure tey dont charge you the £11 replcement fee. muppets

...if it doesn't recognise it, then I'd suspect the MOT that you currently have. Notify the DVLA imediately as your car is not MOT and therefore not insured.

Exactly, which is why it 'could' be suspect as his is an E-version.

I'd suggest it 'could' be forged...or there might be an innocent reason. BUT the whole reason for the new E-MOTs was to stop things like this happening as everything is on a central database linked to the DVLA.

 

Contact your local DVLA office ASAP as you're driving around at the moment with an illegal vehicle.

I just checked at http://www.motinfo.gov.uk though and the records of the mot are on there so its the real deal, its just got the wrong reg on it. How could that have happened then?

That's really strange. Maybe they registered 2 Zeds at the same time. I've just read back through some of your posts to see where you got the car. World of Cars or something in Birmingham? Seem to have a 'reputation'.

 

Anyway, won't go on about it. Call the DVLA then call the place you got it from and tell them what you're doing.

So the car on the MOT certificate...is a 300ZX? Does the VIN on the MOT match yours as stated on the v5?

get another mot done and at same time your find out if it needs anythin done and its a micky mouse mot

I had a similar problem last month, bought an E55 Merc off a dealer they had as a trade in. Previous owner had it on a private plate so when i bought it the original plates were on the back seat so i just stuck them on. Got it MOT`d no problem then went to tax it a couple of weeks later.

DVLA had re-registered it on a different plate so the log book and MOT were totally different so couldn`t tax it, popped to the MOT place, he called the regional office and they just changed the details and he printed me a different one off

Sounds like the mot garage made a mistake with the entry of the registration number, it happens but more usually with the vin.

 

You need to contact your nearest VOSA office give them the details of the mistake you probably will have to prove proof of ownership and show them the V5 etc.

They can but I think there's a time limit. 24 hours I think. They had to change the details when I had mine MOTd a few months ago. Asked them to correct to mileage rather than KMS reading.

Sorted this out today so here's the official solution for future reference:

 

Had to take my v5 (log book) and incorrect MOT to the garage who did the MOT for me. Then they have to fax these over to a VOSA office so they could verify that they are for the same car. Then VOSA will change the details on their database and then let the garage know it has been changed, then the garage re-print the MOT certificate.
