TVR are to close their UK factory and move production abroad.

I’m sure not everyone here is that keen on TVRs, but I shall be said to see this move. Least TVR was something to be proud of, producing raw sports cars rather than the lack luster geriatric design of the Max Power designed Rover range which, thankfully, have been banished for the time being. But felt sorry for the workers that built the cars at Longbridge. Same now is happening with TVR, but at least the cars remain in production. But they are becoming less and less British as time goes on. Now owned by a Russian, built overseas. Sad. :(

I thought they'd gone bust and dissappeared anyway.

At least they're still operating.

Maybe if they build them in the far east they'll be a bit more reliable. lol

I'm gutted  I've always loved TVR from when i was a kid and always aspired to own one. Now the ruskies have bought it as CraigDavid says they may at least build them better?

It is a shame that a small part of British motor industry is coming to an end, but they did probably make the most unreliable cars in the country

So what is the biggest (wholly) british car manufacturer left then?

I think it may be "Manganese Bronze"

Who? I hear some ask...

....they make the London "Black" taxi ;)

Then again maybe they've been bought by foreign investors for all I know

I think Bristol, Grinnall, Ginetta and Caterham still remain. Although Ginetta haven't launched a car for years and haven't sold any for some time. Not sure what the state of play is with them.

what about morgan are they still british?

This once great nation that ruled most of the world has all but vanished to the backwaters.......sold down the river, sad day

I remember when MADE IN ENGLAND stamped on a product stood for quality, now you hardly see it GREAT BRITAN has lost its great, once the prowed makers of the most beautiful and stylish cars in the world, all gone, the greatest ship builders in the world all gone, you name it its gone, im not prowed to be english anymore, oops forgot not allowed to say im english either

I AM ENGLISH

Noble, Lotus, Invicta, Morgan, Ariel, Radical, Caterham, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Range Rover, Rolls Royce, Bentley.

Granted most of them are not owned by a British person or a British company any more but they all originated in Britain and still are designed and made here.

And then there are cars which have a non-British badge but have been designed here and some built here. Vauxhall VXR220, 350Z, MX5.

Nissan has a huge design workshop in Sunderland (I think) because they said that British designers are still the best.

British cars are not dead, its still there. We actually have dozens of car compaines and car makes, but most or owned by other companies. But does that stop them being British? If so, hope people in London are enjoying your German water.

Look at the number of car compaines in Itally, France, Germany and the US. They all have huge compaines, but they dont have the same number of diversity of car manufactures that we still do.

Jerremy Clarkson did a program about the best British Sports Car, and in 1st place was the Mazda MX-5. Strange, but he did have a point.

It is sad to say that our car manufacturers are owned by over seas companies, but look at the two main players for at least a decade, Ford and Vauxhall owned by the yanks.

If you look at it this way, Nissan, Toyota and Honda have announced that they are all employing at least 400 more workers each and BMW 300 more, at least the manufacturing is in the U.K

Who cares if it is owned by the Russians or the Chinese or even the French, at least the Name continues, what is sad is when it dies completely.

I know a great deal of Nissans are built in Sunderland but I didn't know the 350Z was :smash:

So Nissan didn't follow on the Z heritage and build them all at the same special Z-car factory as ours.....?
