Advice please

ok bought johns engine of him ages ago. just wanted to know if any potencial issues I have to be aware of if leaving an engine standing for a long time. its been 6month or so

I would turn it over every now and then if I was you. Use a socket on the crank pulley. I stored a v6 Granada engine some years ago for a couple of years, the only problem I had when I eventually used it was that injectors has siezed up so I had to replace them.

yes, if the engine has been standing outside and not "airtight" sealed (like sparkplugs removed) you may now have rust on the cylinderwalls and crankshaft

 

Have seen this happen a few times

When I store my bike over winter I drop the oil and spray a quick dash of wd-40 into the cylinders then put the plugs back in. I have heard that used engine oil can become "acidic" if left for long periods though I have no idea if that is true or not but if it is it cant be a good thing.
