Hi all, just joined as I have recently bought a 1990 Jap import auto TT. Have read many threads about dodgy oil pressure sender, it appears mine is also. Can anyone tell me where it is.

I have downloaded an online manual which shows it above the oil filter. I changed the oil the other day and saw no sign of it. Any assistance appreciated.

take off the passenger side wheel and its on the oil lines just by the side of the block i think. its a cylindrical shape.

Thanks, I'll have a look in the morning. Has anyone had any success cleaning this sensor or will I be wasting my time. Thought it might be worth a try?

the hole on the stock sender can get blocked and is too small which is why they all fail. You could replace it or attempt to widen the hole slightly by drilling it, must be carefull not to damage the diaphram inside it tho.

They are almost always located on the passenger side. The port above the oil filter was used on very early and us models. It is sometimes used by people to add a second sender for an aftermarket gauge but you would need an L shape adapter or the sender will hit the steering rack.

This is why it was moved to the passenger side. I put my car on stands and changed it, its quite far back in front of the passanger side turbo. Looks lots like an aftermarket sender, nothing special. The thread used is standard 1/8 so you can put a new aftermarket sender straight in and wire it to your aftermarket gauge which is what i did.

I didnt get much oil leak when i removed it, but have the new one ready and put your finger over it quick!

Thanks for that, looking at fitting a boost guage so will probably get the two and fit at the same time if cleaning doesn't work.

Yeah they usually work - trouble is the needle only STARTS to go above normal when the engine is already overheating ;)

My car overheaded when my heater matrix was leaking, my aftermarket gauge was reading 100c and the stock one still at half! Rubbish!
