My engine is out of the car at the moment, changing injecters and turbos.

Question: Best (and money wise) way of curing noisy lifter/s ?

I wondered about just removing/cleaning ? or bite the bullet and buy all new ?

Any help advice appreciated.

If the lifters were replaced not so long ago, remove & inspect them. They could be noise as one or more maybe blocked. If that is the case, soak them in petrol.

That sounds about right, have you removed and soaked/cleaned before or anyone, and of course has it worked. ie: silent engine, no more noise.

cheers thats a really good write-up

just "bookmarked that!

Thanks Andy...Now I fully understand the way they work, how and why the noise occurs and also how to clean them properly.

Cured mine by going down to Harrys and getting some valve lifter lub, cost about £4, all at the suggestion of JeffTT, and low and behold it worked. no sewing machine noise. took about 150 miles to go through, but been fine for last 3K. worth a try before spending hundreds on replacing them at about £25/each?
