re: nissan 300zx reg no h1a apt

as you know we recentle removed both turbo assemblies, at your request, and fitted replacement units supplied by yourself. at the same time you took away both exhausts to have the catalysts removed which again at your request we reinstalled.

as we jointly are aware, now the car is running a rasping noise can be heard when accelarating which appears to come from the n/s bank of cylinders. this is the side that had the siezed turbo. having discussed the concern with an expert in this field, mr andy middlehurst, it is believed the rasping noise correctly called detonation-may be caused by a variety of factors such as in part, due to the de-restriction of the exhausts may be causing overboost, which if this is the case, can be adjusted by using the appropriate equipement.

as stated previously there are many factors to be considerd and to get it set up the car goes to middlehurst garage in st helens, who are respected and recognised experts in the field of diagnostics and rectifications on this type of car. the cost of this work would be bourne by yourself. however, if it is proven that we have caused the concern by incorrect fitting of the turbos i assure you tha we will bear the cost of the rectifiocation only and provided we are properly informed by the garage involved and given the opportunity for inspection. this is expeccialy so if you decide to take the car to any repairer other than middlehurst and that they are a recognised authority on the subject.

you have also brought to our attention that the boost gauge is inoperative since the car's return. we are unable to confirm or deny that it is working, but again, if we have failed to reconnect the system correctly we will bear the cost.

finnaly, you belive that we have not refitted the battery it was bought in with. we recognise there is a possibility that we may have inadvertantely swopped it with another car which was stripped down adjacent to yours. we are now in the process of checking this out, and again i reassure you that we will resolve the matter in a mutually satisfactory manner.

yours sincerely

well what do u think guys??? just a few things the noise is not a rasping noise and is deffenatly not detonating, it is a loud whistling noise like a fan belt slipping. and the de-cats would not cause the car to overboost im sure.

NO decats would not cause over boost. That's the waste gates job I think. Not too good on turbos.

At least you are getting some where. Personally I would ask if you can take it to Hiteq to be safe. Not questioning the other places ability, I would rather go to one where the garages dont seem to have some sort of "Relations"

Their spelling and grammer is terrible,

I'd request a third party inspection by an agreed independant company such as the AA or the RAC before any more work is carried out, the question is then "who pays for this"?

Its better than nothing - but I think this is still going to cost you a fair bit coz basically the garage will say that your problem is nothing to do with the 'fitting' of the turbos hence you stump up the cost plus any work to fix the noise. The main problem you have is that you supplied the parts to Nissan and 'requested' they be fitted. Therefore Nissan is only responsible if they fitted them badly - nothing to do with them if they dont work properly. I hope you have some luck though!

Jeez

THE BATTERY

"we may have inadvertantely swopped it with another car which was stripped down adjacent to yours" What!!!! lucky you didn`t get your car back with a Nissan Primera engine

" we may have inadvertantely swopped" biggrin.gif

Out of interest as the turbo gauge is not working do you know what boost level it has been set at? sound like it could be a big boost leak, hope they set them equal not one doing most of the work!

Hi mate,

To be honest I don't reckon you could of got any more out of Nelson at this stage. They are basically saying that if it turns out that they f*cked it up in the first place they will pay for the repair, but they want proof they are shite before shelling out a load of cash. The bloke who sent you the letter will be pretty aware that a shabby job was done by his garage, so if he's got any brain in his head he'll want to get things cleared up asap.

If it goes to middlehurst or hiteq or whoever, make sure you go up with the car yourself and tell your side of the story to the mechanics who will be investigating. I'm sure that everyone in the motor trade know all about the shocking quality of work that is sometimes carried out at main dealers.

Good work mate smile.gif

I agree with a comment above, ring Ian at Hiteq and tell him what is going on. I think Ian used to work for Middlehurst anyway but my worry is that although Middlehurst are good with Skylarks and Z's they are at the end of the day a Nelson Mandella!!! wink.gif

right, u got the turbos from somewhere else yeah?? If that's the case have you contacted them and asked them what they are gonna do if the turbos are faulty? are they gonna pay the bill for the extra work to be done?

turbo technics will pay 4 a new turbo if there 2 blame but will not pay for the laybor to fit or remove them, bummer if it is there fault but im hoping it is an air leak somwhere please!!!!!

not sure if it helps, but on the mkiii Supras the same screeching noise can be heard when the turbo manifold gasket is blowing. If they didnt fit the gasket properly it could well be that.

i think so to well i hope so cause i can hear the exhaust leaking very near the turbo lets cross our fingers!!! LOL

Keith Churchill from the 200sx and the mkivsupra.net BBS had the problem on his mkiii. If you can track him down on either of those BBSs then you can ask him what the noise was like and compare notes. He really thought his turbo was shot when he first heard it but was pleased to find it wasnt quite so bad after all.
