NZR: MR2 Mk1 or MX-5 as a small sports car?

What would you choose?

1986-1989 MR2 Mk1

1989-1991 MX-5/Eunos

I can get a MR2 Mk1 for about a grand and this guy can convert them to LPG for £650- http://www.mr2mk1club.com/LPG.html .

But the Eunos(import) is quite cheap and some are autos(suits where I live).

Cheers

Many journalists rate the MX5 as 'the' sportscar of the '90s.

My other half has one and I love driving it. In many ways it is more fun than the Z or my TVR were because you can really take it to the limits. IMHO The Z & TVR were really too quick to take to the limits anywhere other than on a track.

I can't comment on the MR2.

Don't forget MX5 was generation later than MR2 Mk1 so like for like would be better.

MX5 was, of course, copy of Lotus Elan. Sorry, should say, copy of reliable bits of Elan.

If you're looking atthis sort of price, why not check out some real cred? 240 or 260Z?

Keep it in the family why not wink.gif There's some for sale on www.zclub.net and even a Z32 as well.

edited PS: LPG? great idea! When I win pools/lottery (strike out which do not apply) I want a late model stock (ish) Z32 so I can convert my current one to LPG. Bit of performance tweakery, get more power than stock, halve fuel cost and go thrrrrrrp to over enthusiastic greenies. (sub 5s 0-60 in a "green" car? what a stonking idea.....)

Thanks for the opinions lads....

Gio, LPG conversions were looked at a while back. The general response Craig got from some of the companies made the idea a no go. frown.gif

Seems single turbo conversion is ok, but twin turbos no one had done before(and I wouldnt like my Zed to be the test bed)

I think the only way to get an LPG Zed is to have an N/A model converted.

Trey - thanks for the info.

Much as I love the LPG idea, there is no way I would consider it on my only ZX. But if I got rich enough to have two......

And if this ever happens, I'll host a 300ZX meet so you'll all know anyway.

cu l8r - I did something right so she says we're going for a curry now! biggrin.gif
