Hi all,

Its been a while, zed must have been running well.

Anyway, went out last night for a blast and when I arrived back home and took my shoes off I noticed they were wet. Straight away I realised that it must be a burst water pipe or the heater matrix as both the driver and passenger foot well were wet, not totally soggy but damp enough.

Now a while back I heard that you could bypass the car heating system (typical now the cold mornings are on the way). How do you do it, any help much appreciated as she is my daily motor, public transport is cr4p!

Cheers in advance.

Steve.

Back of the engine are two pipes that go inside the car to the matrix, you need to remove those pipes and find a way of conecting them together. What I did was three bits of pipework connected with 90 degree plasic plumbing bends. so ended up with a square shape and not bent pipework.

= is the exiting metal pipe coming out engine

- is the new rubber bypass hose i fittied

# is a 90 degree plastic connector

Does that make sence?

Take me to the pub, Cheers. Will try that.

Ollie ZX, deff, not targas, thanks tho.

Just make sure that however you do it you don't get a kink in the pipe and restrict the water flow round the engine ;)

Thats why I said to use plastic 90 degree bends to avoid that exact thing.

Hope it works out ok bud.

Gonna have a good go tonight.

How long will it take?

Its not too bad, I did mine in a carpark at work without any propper tools in 30 min., cut the existing pipes away dont try and save them its not worth it.

would it not be better and less work in the long run to just fix the problem instead? in the winter you'll need a heater to demist the car asmuch as keep you warm. it just sounds like you're making more work for yourself as you've got to put it all back when you do fix it.

just a thought.

Take it you've never had a go at changing a heater matrix yourself then!

Its a coont of a job, it really is (dash out and rip your hands apart job).

Need a good two days that you know you can dedicate to it and wont need the car for (might not take two days but worth making sure you have the time), if the guy needs his car this week the bypass is easy and will mean he can use the car.

nah, never had one go yet. going off that, i can see why the bypass is necessary. im sure someone told me you didnt have to get the dash out on a Z32? oh well. at least i know for if it does go on me.

cheers.

You can do it with the dash in, but takes twice as long and you can double the cursing and bleeding from hands lol

Well I answered my own question here :(

Drove up the A1 today wondering why my car was steaming up more and more, opened the windows and turned up the heat to try clear it and saw steam coming out of all the vents

Thought it was on fire at first but then noticed my damp shoe

Bugger! :smash:
