So I received the HID kit from Danny's group buy and firstly have to say thumbs up for the service and the speed with which he got them shipped out. I made it my mission to fit them this weekend... that's where my trouble started.

Found that my Clifford alarm unit had be fitted to neatly cover the access point to the headlight unit, so I had to remove that. No major issue, but a frustration. The real pain was removing the old lights. Managed the offside without too much hassle, but the nearside was a complete nightmare - took me ages with lots of fumbling around and resulted in lots of bad language and considerable bruising and skin removal to my right hand/arm.

Finally got both units fitted (just in time as I was about to lose my rag) and guess what? They didn't work...

...only about five seconds later I realise the sad truth. I'd only gone and removed the bloody main beams hadn't I! :headvswal

I have now reversed the process and will try again next weekend. I feel like such a tw@t. :slap:

Hmmm, didn't get chance to attempt fitting mine this week-end, glad I read this before trying as I'd probably do the same silly thing. Mind you, as already mentioned I doubt I'd have been brave/daft enough to post it on here...so good on yer!!

Worth cleaning the lenses while you have the bulb units out too - 15+ years of crud build up has a major effect on light performance ;)

Hi mate!

LOL! We've all done things like that ... don't sweat it! ;)

Just a quick note for you (and all other UK-spec Zed owners) regarding connecting the HID kits. I received a phone call from a friend this Sunday who was installing the kit for Emero. He told me that her UK-spec Zed had a different connection to the headlight loom than I have come across before. Basically, the positive connection is a nice silicone covered spade connector (so far so good) but the negative connection is through a bullet connector and not a spade connector. I have not come across this before and so for any other UK-spec zed owners out there with this kit - you may have to fabricate a conversion wire (6mm female spade to bullet connector). I'm sorry if this affects any of the participants in the GB - I was not aware that some UK-spec Zeds have different connectors. I will attempt to find out what size bullet connector is required and fabricate some conversion leads for those who don't want to do it themselves. Please let me know via PM or e-mail whether you'd like a set of these conversion wires (free of charge of course).

Good luck with the refit mate!

Dan

Erm think Emero has had replacement headlights - possibly off a jap spec with the earth wire added later - hence a different connector ;)

Could be wrong though :)

Hi Andy,

You could be right there but I've just been in touch with Simon (Sixpence) and his UK spec zed has a bullet connector as well ... All I need now is to find out the size of the bullet connector and whether it is male/female and I can fabricate a conversion lead. No where did I hide that UK-spec Zed I've been hiding from my wife ... (kidding!)

Dan

PS - if anyone with a UK spec Zed has the time to go out and have a quick look at the bullet connector then please let me know what type of connector is on the car (ie male/female) and what size. Any/all info received with much thanks!

Will check when I get home if no one else has responded by then Danny :)

Andy thanks for your help. Don't go giving Dan duff information now... gerrit?

Appreciate everyone's empathy on my cock-up by the way. Just remember though: You all thought you were capable of doing it, but I actually did. Still if it stopped one other person making the same mistake it was at least worth posting.

I think it's probably best for all concerned if I don't go advising Dan on the connection, but I definitely know it was a bullet one.

Simon.

PMSL I bet there,s alot of us done simple cock ups like that but most wouldn,t admit it :smash:

I don,t give a 5h1t so here,s mine , done whilst fitting my glow dials :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal

wer u bin optimistic alan half a tank all the time lol

UK do indead have a spade and a bullet connector :) Bullet on the car side of the harness is male and 3mm in dia - so your adapter will require a female 3mm bullet connector :) The bullet lead on the car harness is the same length as the spade lead - about 5cm :)

Hope that helps :)

Not sure for deffo, can't be arsed to o and check, but is RPM and speed the wrong way round LOL

You're right! Boldy - well done mate! To be fair though, you got the boost guage and oil pressure in the right place...

Was it a big job? I'm getting some from the group buy that's going on, so you may have saved me one mistake at least.

Daft thing was , i only noticed when i went for some petrol and noticed my speed rising everytime the engine revved :smash: :smash:

There not bad to fit but do use a very thin double sided tape , something like carpet tape or better still some stuff called Re-Fix Tape made by 3M, anything

thicker and your needles can catch on the clock faces .

Oh and do make sure you put the right face on the right clock :nono: HTH
