3.radio band expander

4.front lights and indicators adjusted.

5.fog light fitted.

is this basically it or am i a jackass.

cos if it is then im not arsed paying £335 [plus £190 for the actual test itself]

ill bloody do it myself - well some of it anyway.well. whatever.

Why would you want an SVA test done anyway? The DVLA says (about an import):-

A vehicle which is permanently imported for use in Great Britain must be registered and licensed as soon as possible after it arrives in this country. The vehicle should not be used or kept on public roads until the licensing and registration formalities have been completed. However, if the vehicle needs to have an SVA (see section A "Type Approval") or MOT test in order to be registered, the vehicle may be driven to and from the pre-arranged test appointment. Thereafter, the vehicle must be kept off the road until the registration formalities have taken place. Application for registration should be made to your nearest DVLA Local Office. N.B It is not possible to offer an 'over the counter service'; registration usually takes between 48 to 72 hours.

Go for the MOT option!

as I have said before my dads m8 graham who owns a garage imports cars. All imports less than 10 years old have to have an SVA. Some of the things the cars have been failed for is.

Wire for rear fog light not with the rest of the loom

Knobs on head unit too long

Dangerous cup holder on the dash

2 x Brake efficiency too high

Anyone puts their nob on MY headunit and they're in BIG trouble biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Muwahahahahahaha

because i have a 1993 car that will need SVA in a couple of weeks when it gets here from Japan city.

hence i am trying to figure out how much preparation i can do myself for the SVA and how much i cant do - [iE. speedo conversion etc]

i'm also hoping that someone might tell me someone who does SVA test/preparation at a decent price lower than the £600 i have already been quoted for a complete guaranteed pass.

anyway......who's got a nob on their head that is too long???

ps. I hope everyone is getting ready to buy Japanese Performance magazine on Friday - except dont but it from WHsmiths in leicester otherwise you might get there before i can. swine.

The SVA test is very comprehensive but there is very little on a Z that might fail it.

It includes things like checking the seat belt mountings are the right height and are secure, testing any protruding items on the body and interior are not sharp etc. Lighting must be correct height from ground. Loadsa stuff but most of it is designed for kit cars and one off vehicles.

The Z is already available here so it's just the fogs, speedo, change tyres to euro legal as far as i can see.

I currently import cars as well, and you do not need EURO spec tyres for the SVA, they must have sufficient depth, but thats it.

You must also put the car in with a full tank of fuel, because they check the kerb weight as well.

The EURO tyres are required by the MOT which depends on how good your MOT station is at noticing there is no kite mark on them.

You will still need an MOTY after the SVA to be able to register the car at the DVLA.

Leigh.

ps: Just supplied a 91 RED, Manual 300ZX, Mines 280KMH clock with MINES BOOST gauge built in, leather, cruise, boost controller, 81000KM.

Supplied for £5000.

Let us know if you want another JAP car, will always do a good deal to fellow Zed owners.

I'm confused, as I said, why do you need an SVA? we have an imported 300Z without and a GTO with, both 1992 imports that we have had for couple or three year! doesn't help much does it????

YOU SHOULD NOT OF BEEN ABLE TO REGISTER THE CAR WITHOUT THE SVA CERTIFICATE. THE CAR MUST BE 10 YEARS OR OLDER NOT TO REQUIRE SVA.

I WOULD CHECK WITH THE DVLA YOUR CAR IS ACTUALLY REGISTERED.

LEIGH.

Does a car need an SVA?

DTLR flowchart is here. http://www.roads.dtlr.gov.uk/vehicle/sva/pi5/pdf/app01.pdf

More DLTR SVA & import gubbins here (but written in bureaucratese - couldn't find a babel-fish)

http://www.roads.dtlr.gov.uk/vehicle/sva/pi5/index.htm http://www.roads.dtlr.gov.uk/vehicle/sva/index.htm

Mine was 9 years old on import but didn't get an SVA. From memory, I did ask the question of the importer but did a Nelson to the reply (not not Mandela, the other one. Sailor chappie.) But the V5 definitely says imported.

It used to be that if you "really" did go abroad and buy it and the car was over 3 years old, you didn't need SVA. But according to the DTLR this loophole has been tightened up.

Other loophole might have been to persuade the licensing office that the British or European Type Approval applied to the model. Can't remember.

Probably added to the confusion rather than clarified - sorry. I blame the Tories. biggrin.gif

Just to let you know that the tyre DO! have to have a "E" mark to pass a SVA test and have to be speed rated . Many Jap tyres have no speed rating and will fail the test.

Tread maters on the MOT.

Remember to have it tested on a full tank of fuel and take your DE-reg docs with you.

They are hot on emmisions and as someone else said sharp edges. tape bracket to fog light if exposed.

And yes you are better off doing the work yourself.

Hope this helps
