Has anybody had experience of MK ENGINES Ltd of Bletchley, Nr Milton Keynes?

They quote a price of £950 for an exchange auto box - fitted!

Seeing as I was being quoted £1,400 + VAT to have mine overhauled it seems a hell of a good price - if the job is a good 'un.

Anybody any experience - please let me know.

I don't know about the exchange gearbox, but £1400 plus VAT for an overhaul seems a bit on thw steep side. Just had a full soft rebuild (including pump, converter, etc.) for £1200 + VAT from Mister Transmission in Charlton (SE London). Very professional setup and a good warranty (plus they ONLY deal with auto boxes and make better versions of parts known to fail lots).

Bit of update
so while on the dyno we discovered a few drops of oil under the car. A bit of investigation reveals the most likely culprit is a cam seal…. Annoying! So at some point I’ll have to pull the front of the engine off and install a new seal.

I’ve also been speaking to Brett at BDE and will be purchasing his now PS pulley for ATi crank pulley, which will resolve the issue of it spitting off its PS belt.

I’ve also been going through the datalogs of some of the drives I’ve had to identify the cause of the imbalance of fuelling between banks. While I’m not sure it’s totally the cause, I have found that the alternator is not keeping up with demand. While the pic shows voltage drop during a pull down to 13.06v, wider analysis identifies a direct correlation between the fuelling of the engine and the electrical systems being above or below 13.5v. So I’m going to have my alternator inspected, and if it’s performing as expected I’ll either look at having it uprated to 120amp (to offset the 24amp draw of the 525lph pump) or if that’s not possible I’ll look to upgrade to a 200amp unit from WPS or WOSP.

Time to reduce the under bonnet heat, didn’t want those horrible plastic vents so had proper louvres made at Cool Louvres in Crawley. Will drop off for paint tomorrow.

Very worst case you could fit slightly longer springs. As you know my was pretty low but I didn’t have problems with normal speed bumps etc. The biggest area you’re likely to have an issue is either the front of the exhaust, the Japspeed ones hang down a bit too much and the arch liners. You can modify them to stop the scraping though and it’s mostly a wheel fitment issue.

Some TLC for my Zed

I collected my Zed yesterday afternoon - and have to say what a great job Jim has done...
The new loom and injectors have transformed the car, the engine runs so much smoother and feels more responsive. I needn't have worried about the suspension, it looks lower in the photos than it actually is. It's still on the low side, but Jim has set everything up well - not too harsh, but it also handles just nicely. The steering wheel is dead straight, after Jim replaced the rack bushes and track rod ends and performed a laser alignment - something the usual tyre places often fail to get right.
Suffice to say, I enjoyed the 100 mile drive home - definitely well worth the trip.
