you have 2 processing cores on a single cpu. i would be using the 64 bit windows (X86 version) as it is built to take advantage of dual core processors

thats what i thought but heard the 64 bit windows isnt any good i was going to wait for vista. also i did a benchmark test (only basic one ) and got 6288 points is this any good

the 64 bit version is much better than the 32 bit version imho. what benchmark utility did you use as just posting points doesnt mean much otherwise

I have been using XP 64 for nearly a year now, only a few programs don't run on it most are ok. Hardware drivers on my setup work with XP 64, the only thing that does not work is my webcam.

I can't get 3d mark 2006 to work on XP 64

There are not many programs which take advantage of 64bit and there are not many programs which take advantage of dual core too.

But they are coming.

I would stick with normal XP Pro for the time being and then go to VIsta if you want when its available.

i got 64 bit vista and standard vista...haven't had time to load one yet...they came last week its all due to being a memeber of the microsoft partner program...there was other gear in the pack like the office 2007 preview

vista isnt too bad, but i have problems with screen size and dual display on the X86 version, also using office 2007 RC1TR and that really good

computer = computes. im lost. do you not get an advantage by having 2x processors automatically then? i take it that if you havent got the right software you'd only be using one processor anyway? or just half the speed of each?

totally over my head. can anyone explain it to me please?

cheers.

yes you will feel a benifit.

What will happen is so many programs will run on 1 core and so many will run on another core. Windows will do this automatically for you.

However, there are programs coming out which will use both cores. So they will be about 1.9 times faster then a single core CPU.

yeah I had that problem too. Vista had a habit of setting the wrong port as the main one.

I quite like vista, there are a lot of features on there which are nice. Like restoring files to previous versions. Plus there is a lot of eye candy on there too.

Close the gadget pane then mate.

I like the new look solitare LOL

The cards dont bounce off the screen when you win. They fall and smash. Hehehe, I like it.

Some things about it do annoy me, but I am sure I will find a way round it though.

Im wondering about the security about it though. I know MS said they are not allowing any 3rd party software access the Kernel. Which I dont know is good or bad. Six of one half a dozen of another I think.

first thing i did was kill it lol.

you can still get access to the kernal but it's a lot harder than xp, and it's only a matter of time before 3rd party get access to it. same sh!t different os lol
