Came back in from tesco parked up and gave the loud pedal a little bit of a prod, could hear something rattling.

Two prods later and a sound of something metallic falling off and bouncing round the engine bay eeek

Looked in the engine bay and the bolt on the front of the cam belt cover had worked its way lose and dropped off under the car bouncing off the belts luckily not getting wedged in there.

Phew :o

Better go bolt it up tight and check the others while i'm at it...

I think the lesson here is to check for problems when you first hear the rattle, rather than revving it another couple of times to see if you can get the bit to fall off! ;)

lol, yes learnt my lesson, but the amount of bolts in the engine how the heck would i find which one it was? ;) it'd take forever! lol

glad you found the problem Nick, damn lucky it never got caught up somewhere .. wanna come round and figure out the 30 odd rattles on mine ?

Very lucky, i've just rebuilt the top end of my mates vaux 2.5 v6 which is fitted in an Astra GSI, a bolt came out of the rear cam cover and jammed one of the inlet cam sprockets, it took out 18 valves a bunch of guides, broke the ends of both inlet cams and damaged the sprockets, not a fun job.

I had a welded nut inside the pancake filter on the mini drop off and fly into the head and jam a valve open in the mini recently.

Cue about 8 hours on the driveway taking the head off, regrinding the valves and fitting new seals.

Flipping bolts and nuts lol :D
