Just completed my last commission and as I haven't got any more painting or photo jobs on for a bit I thought I'd do something I've been meaning to do for a while now. Tonight I finished sketching out a rendition of the Millen/O'Connell/Morton Z32. It's going to be an oil on canvas piece, 700mm x 500mm and so far I'm having fun doing it! :)

A chap I know who has seven of my paintings in his house (all fairly large abstracts) keeps asking me when I plan on popping my clogs so he can flog them for a profit! Lol!...(the swine! :D)

ย

lets drift: it's getting there...;)

ย

ZX MAD: reproduce as in make a kit of it? Steve Millen might have a few things to say about that...;) But seriously, yeah sure no prob, got a few you might be interested in. PM me your email address and I'll send them over. BTW, before I forget, was going to call when you started trading again about the power cap ;)

Do you do a wash sketch over your prep drawing first? I find this a great way to add depth as you can apply several quick dring washes before building the detail.

ย

Mind you. I always construct the backgound washes in Acrillics for speed (habbit of an ex working Illustrator) and the flatness of the acrillic creats distance against the depth and life of the oils.

Be nice to see one of your cars finish :slap:

Cheeky coont! :D

I've used the old "tempera underpainting" technique before and I like the immediacy of being able to hit the acrylic base almost at once with oil glazes but with this, as I'm not going for a precise rendering, I'll probably start by blocking in the main underlying areas of colour before working in more detail with touches of opaque colour on top. Probably :D
