this is probably another naive question .

but I have just had some work done on my propshaft (under warranty.. recomended garage i.e. not much choice!!) they have obviously lost some transmission fluid and A/T dipstick reads zilch !!

is dextron the one to use ? as per the manual or should I be using something else?

Under the terms of my warranty I have to have my car serviced by an accredited garage or a nissan dealers, so far I have kept my end of the bargain but it seems to me that the so called "accredited garages /nissan dealers "don t really know there arse from there elbow and consiquently when I do eventually get my car back I find myself checking things that in reality I have just paid good money out to people to check for me .

I think I have made a mistake in that I thought that if a car was designed and built by nissan it would make sense that nissan trained mechanics would be able to instill some sort of confidence in there customers that they have a rats arse idea of what the are doing not every one owns a micra ..

Nissan you can't fly with the eagles if your turkeys .. anyway I have been on the beer and I will remember posting this when I read it tomorrow ,good night all

Dexron III is the std oil I think. Yeh, Nissan dealers by & large don't know the ZX well at all. Best to find an independent mechanic, or a nissan dealer who knows the car (I believe there are some). I use Silvia engineering in Maldon.

When you take the reading on the dipstick are you taking the measurement with the engine off or whilst its running? I was think you need to take the level whilst the engine is running to get a true measurement.

Pault thanks for the reply

yes I was following the correct procedure

the main problem I had was that after having a garage work on your car you should not have to check it over yourself! but I suppose most people do anyway ,plus I had just finished midnights so I was probably in a shitty mood as well, plus she has got me decorating again ,plus...

coogs I did use dexronIII thanks

Paul, My experience(s) with Nissan have been shite so far, however, I am trying recommendation number 2 at the mo. This guy does seem to know what he's talking about, or at least makes you feel comfortable about leaving your car with him/them. If my car gets sorted I will spill the beans and recommend them as somewhere to go. Was down there today, two other 300'z up on ramps aswell. Both TT's so they must be doing something right!
