im about to apply for a job in car sales

 

how do i word my cover letter to show that i love my cars without sounding over the top?

 

job is trainee at local alfa dealers :cool:

Just tell them in detail what it is about cars you like, how long you've liked them. Not 'I love cars, I love giving my Z some beans and whop-assing Cosworths etc'.

Just say you're car enthusiast and don't go into too much detail.

 

I used to work in the bike trade and my experience of the car trade is similar - plenty of salesmen have no interest in the cars - they're just salesmen.

 

Wen I used to work in a motorbike shop our salesman couldn't tell one bike from another - he was just very good at getting people to hand over their money.

 

Good luck with it however you play it.

Its the sales side there interested in, although a good knowledge of products always helps :D

 

Just dont say anything about italian electronics LOL :D

I have been looking towards a job in car sales for a couple of years now.The prospect of selling Alfa Romeo’s and Fiats really appeals to me as there is a great sense of history and tradition involved with these brands. I feel that Italian cars are designed where as other manufactures mearly produce.

I don't agree with what you're saying as Fiat are crap, but yeah, nothing like a bit of arse licking. We he asks what car you have, you going to tell him that you have an Uno or something? Not a Jap car! hehe

I have been a HR Manager for the last 20 years.... First and foremost you need to be able to sell and have excellent communication skills, you would need to be knowledgeable about the cars in general terms, but not be overly enthusiastic about a particular car you happen to like. They will want you to sell any car. So an interest and appreciation of cars I think is fine, but you don’t want to come over as an anorak!

I’m the first to admit that I know ‘jack sh*t’ about the mechanics of a car, which is how I got done over on an Escort I bought a few years back that needed a whole new exhaust within a week of buying it. Buying a car can be a really daunting experience when you don’t know what to look out for.

 

If you’re like me, buying a car is a big commitment and you rely on the sales person to be knowledgeable about the car and answer any questions you do have. You need to have a confidence about the product you’re selling to be able to convey that to the customer.

 

In short…I’d give them some spiel about how the customer relies on you to help them make a decision.

No apostrophe in 'Alpha Romeos' (they don't own anything nor is an abbreviation - it's a plural).

 

Also 'merely' - spelling.

 

 

 

 

If I was applying I'd go big on stuff like: 'achieve high sales and maintain impeccable customer service', 'keen to help customers get the right car on the day', 'drive business while keeping customers loyal'. ie - all about selling loads of cars fast AND keeping customers happy. That's what they want IMHO.

My experience of car salesmen is that they're not afraid to LIE LIE LIE LIE to sell a car.

 

Just my opinion - no offence to any car salesmen out there.

 

I'm not knocking the job - it's something I've thought about going into and think it could be a good career.

Just tell them what they want to hear!

I may have been offered a job working for a multi million pound vehicle recovery company as marketing director at 26 eek!

 

He's a friend of my dads and just been on the phone to him organising a meeting for today. The job is mine basically if i want it but i hate sales that's the only problem lol

 

But the 30+k they're offering could be a good incentive and also a damn good progression on my cv running my own company to becoming marketing director within a year of graduating.

Good luck with the job matey, they'll be looking for skills in customer relationships, positive forward thinking and self motivation, a keen eye for how you can tailor the product for the customers needs etc.

 

Above all try and learn as much about the company as you can, it always helps if they say "how much do you know about the company?"
