  • 3 months later...

had my st200 3yrs now not broke down once and has sailed through 3 mots without any trouble in all that time its cost me just 2 sets of front pads and disks and one washer pipe.................and just the services so i cant fault this car

Talking to some of the recovery guys, they say the new bmw's are pretty bad for breakdowns usually electrical!

ford = fix-or-repair-daily lol

lotus = lots-of-trouble-usally-serious

fair do's that lotus thing is so overdone now, relating to the s1 or s2 series yes but my s3 turbo is in excellent condition after 23 years!! i had one of our lotus forums best guys look my car over when he stayed for the weekend, even my interior smells of good leather, the body work is great, a few small spider cracks in the grp but nothing that will show again after some gel coat before the respray.this guy did a complete body off restoration not too long ago on his own lotus,

the engine is good, i took the head off to upgrade the valve guides and have the porting and polishing done, thats it, the only reason im stripping the engine etc out is to get it all cleaned, painted and to a concours level ready for the show seasons.

Had a fiesta that EVERYTHING broke on apart from the gearbox but then 7 granadas where absolutely NOTHING went wrong apart from the usual brake pads and discs needed replacing.

I'm now onto number eight :D yay!

Hi James

I've had every model of car break down on dates.. esp when your someplace secluded ;)

Cs

He doesn't have the best luck with cars though it has to be said! ;)

Had an alfa 156 2.5 V6 and it never missed a beat, worse car for me was my rover 75 (built by BMW) steering rack was knocking, had to change the clutch lines, MAF's need changed every 24k!

shity bloody car!

Although my choice is TVR as im always having to fix my housemates.... :nono: although parts a quite cheap, they truly are just thrown together

HAD A 7 SERIES BMW AFTER SELLING MY FIRST ZED AND WHAT A PILE OF SHITE IT WAS !!!!! UNDERPOWERED NO HANDLING, SHITTY BRAKES HEAVY ON JUICE!!! It looked the bizz though and it was a tank I knocked down the metal centre partition down that you find in the middle of a dual carriage way one night, got out of the car thinking my car was written off and low and behole it had just cracked the inicator lens and scuffed the bumper!! then about a week later lost control going around a corner and knock a steel sign post down lol once again not a scratch just lost the blanking panel from were my spots should have been!!!

And there great inside for a little loving lol you can get two girls in there with you withou even having to move one over.

worst car i owned ashamed to say was a nissan 200sx s13. Let me see.....two auto gearbox rebuilds, eventually manual convertion. 2 headgaskets and one engine. This was over 10 years ago when it was relatively new. When I think of what I spent repairing it....could've bought a couple of z's. Heap of shit. . At the time I thought it was so........ "special"....

The Older Rovers are a nightmare IMO. they seem to have got something right with the later models. Was that because of the injection of some german inovation?

my vectra. its 100,000 miles FSH head gasket has gone, valve seals gone, alternator gone, rear crank seal, cam sensor, air sensor, CL stopped working. it has put me off getting another vauxhall again

Sorry but most unreliable car ever has to be rover full stop - 2000 onwards ok

Break down why

M-series engine - cam belt goes damage gets done - as well as hgf and most have a oil seap

T-series - same as m-series - cam and crank sensors as well

K-series - head gaskets full stop

oh and not forgeting the Honda D16 lump in the rover 216 range throwing conrods and blowing bottom end bearings

Ford is close behind - before the flooding in the area my mates 11 month old car needed a new hugo sensor and a cat - 15k miles

i would still own another rover but i really want a zed now and saving up now

to much shit on them thats not needed. my 1992 astra 1.6 SR is still going and has never had anything done to the engine no oil leaks, nothing the vectra a 98 i have solved 3 oil leaks and theres still the rear seal left to do :headvswal

vini the cam sensor is a pain one guy i know has had 5 go in 9 years

I had over 50 motors in lat 20 odd years and not one has ever let me down

:D :D :D

I have never had a car in a garage other than for tyres or exhaust

and worst thing I have had happen is a head gasket on a 944 which me and my dad did on a sat morning

I have a feeling I sould have kept my gob shut where's my lucky rabbits foot

rovers have to be well up there i owned 1 and never ever again there SCRAP!!!

always blowing head gasket breaking gearboxes!! it was nicked in the end and boy was i happy but when i got it back it seemed to have even broke down on the as##oles that took it.

i have to do a k series gear box next week haha lol

My old chimaera was 7 grand in 7 months ... sounded lovely though (there is something wrong with me!)

Although my S2000 shot a conrod through the sump and cost me 5k to fix with a second hand engine etc.

I think the tiv still wins though, somedays it just wouldnt start or even open the door or boot. If you caned it the speedo would fall out of the dash and if you brake too hard the lights would start to flicker... Sounded lovely though :-)
