Hi All,

I have a problem with the idle speed on my car. It happens once the car is warmed up. It will be sitting at normal idle (just under 1000rpm) and then it jumps to about 1800 to 2000rpm. It will say like this for a while and then it is an intermittent problem after that. Everything else is OK, I have no other running problems. This car has been main dealer serviced from new and I'm pretty sure it hasn't had any connectors cleaned etc. so I reckon that might be a start, but which ones?.

Cheers,

Steve Hart.

Coolant temp sensor. There are two plugs on the coolant hardpipe at the front of engine block. The CTS is the bigger of the two.

And try cleaning the terminals in the TPS that was always the same problem with mine....for no reason the revs would rise to 1500 then 2000 then drop again, everytime i cleaned the terminals it stoppped

Throttle Position Sensor-its on the n/s front of the engine as you look from the front under the bonnet.

TPS is on the passenger side throttle body - black box. Usually just unplugging the grey connector on the flying lead coming from it and reconnecting sorts the problem....

Thanks guys. Did the jobs recommended and all fine for now. Great site this saves a fortune in garage bills.

Steve.

how do i do that then bud

Cut the connectors off and solder the wires instead. Not really a good idea but if the problem keeps re-occuring then its an option...

First off you could read the FAQ's, then you might want to check the CTS, then the TPS, or the CAS, maybe its the MAF, could be the ECU, or maybe the an AIV.

Cant think of any thing else with 3 letters.

HTH!!!!!
