Hey guys,

Registered recently. I currently own a renault clio v6 mk1 (rwd, 3.0 24v n/a v6, mid engined, 230bhp). I'm liking rwd although I think a v6 clio is not the one for me considering there is so much weight in the back they can very very easily be spun and die at islands etc.

I've never owned a jap car or had a car with a turbo let alone two.

I rang my insurance company (i'm 22 with 2 years no claims) and can get insured on a twin turbo 300zx no problem. They did refuse to insure me on an imported one. It has to be a UK car apparently.

So now i'm looking for a minter or a 300zx, uk standard, has to be manual. I have upto about £10k to spend on one but ideally i'd prefer to get one for about £6-7k maximum.

Is it best to go for a car which has already been rebuilt? What are these engines and boxes like? Can they be reliable as with most jap cars I read about you got a lot of issues with them and require rebuilding.

For the amount of money i've spent, what amount of miles should I be looking at on a car?

I'd preferably want one with as little mods as possible for insurance reasons at the moment. The ones I see for sale tend to have huge spec's of mods.

p.s - what's the best coilover kit to buy for these cars? In the passed on various cars i've used Fk, H&R, Leda. Leda being by far the best.

Appreciate any advice you can give.

I'll have a think of any more questions as i'm sure I have loads in my head but just can't think of them at the moment.

:stop's rambling on about utter shite:

How much is your son roughly paying if you dont mind me asking?

look at imports with much less miles, and no rust, they dont use salt in japan only volcanic ash clever little japs! My jap import has done 52k and is like new underneath.

My jap cars the same only 50k and mint with no rust.

My Jap has zero rust too but blew an autobox quick as the jap ones have a next to uselessly small autobox cooler. This is an essential upgrade to a jap

auto.

There is a tiptronic style upgrade available for the auto so don't rule it out.

As far as tail happy is concerned this is an occupational hazard of Z ownership but I highly recommend racelogic traction control which is an awesome upgrade especially if you have tuned the car too.

he's paying £2400 tpft,as far as the gearbox is concerned ,yes the jap auto's do have smaller coolers but saying that never had any problem with mine ,and if your worried not very expensive for the bigger cooler,or do what i did and have it converted to manual.

mines a import for sale
Chris, if you have a budget of £10k you seriously need to be considering a jap spec car, as mentioned above they have a lot less in the way of rust problems and are often a lower mileage.

I would suggest the best car to buy at the moment was vai0's (posted in the for sale section). You could buy that for £6k spend £1k on insurance if you need and you will have one of the quickest tidiest zeds on the planet.

FYI - I paid £5k for mine, it has had all of the big things done alread:

brakes, coilovers, uprated rad and oil cooler, exhaust, intake etc.

Only 47k miles on the clock (apparently)

And most importantly it's a "proper" car because it doesn't have seats in the back! LOL

I had a BMW325i with mods running at 200bhp and the back end was really bad I would say the Z is a much better car to drive. The power is much easier to handle.
