Any advice on fitting rear struts and springs and front springs.

Money's really tight and i've just been handed my notice at work so may have a go at this myself.

I guess i'll need some spring compressors but what's the story with fitting the new struts will these still work with the handbrake device????

Thanks

Not too bad a job tbh. It will help if you have someone at hand to stand on the rear hub to get the units in and out. You will need compressors to swap the springs over. Check the condition of the dust boots/bump stops when you have the units apart. Replace these if FUBAR ;)

Stock damper actuators will work if you replace with new OEM UK spec units. Obviously you'll have to refit the actuators to the new shocks lol

FUBAR i forget????

How long am i talking a day's work?

Not too worried by the rears, will need to remove/bleed the brakes on all four sides?

Fooked Up Beyond All Recognition ;)

Probably about half day if you already have the interior stripped. Shouldn't need to touch the brakes no - if you need to remove the calipers just unbolt them from the hub and swing them out of the way - don't disconnect the lines.... :)

Half a day for all sides?

I'll give it a go this weekend then.

Do Halfords sell spring compressors?

First time will take you about 6 hours for the whole car :)

Sounds good i'll jack up the back and put both sides on axle stands then do the same on the front, just not looking forward to finding any seized nuts anywhere half way through the job.........!

Did mine last sunday 6-7 hrs numerous cold drinks, gash below left eye, suspected cracked rib, broken finger nails, sore back, arms, and legs----should have paid to have them done---not happy some unexpected creaking now when driven...oh well now for the suspension bushes :duffer:

A very sore....

Did you replace the gaskets that go between the top of the strut and the chassis?

I think they're standard Nissan gaskets ... so try your local dealer first.

Dan

PS - did you speak to Smithy regarding the poly bushes?

Rear - 55338-35F00

Could well cure knocking/sqeaking ;)

hi chaz, it can be a PITA first time you do it!

as for gaskets problem you have is the top mount sits to to the struts bare metal possible reason for the creek, however most of the time its not casued by this, get under car and move all the suspension, find the squick and spray with some wd-40 or similar its probably a dry bush somwhere, once lubed it should quiten down

Hiya,Greg nice to hear from you again.......Been told that one but also have a slight bumping noise when going over uneven surfaces so thought it might be more than that. Would the replacement shocks and springs have had an effect on the suspension bushes.Incidentally any ideas on how much to replace the bushes all round???

were they stock nissan shocks and springs?

and not cheap to do all the bushings etc, give ryan a bell mate on that one

bumping not being funny but are sure everything went back in same order and all top strut mounts are tight, a knocking is often where the top mounts are not tight, and what happens is any pothole or uneven ground causes the shocks to move and on rebound make that knocking sound, best double check all of it :wack:
