How do you know you have spyware mate? I just ask because lots of normal programs can be classed as spyware. Basically anything that sends any kind of details or statistics to a remote party is considered spyware eg windows media player does this as standard unless you tick the box not to, also real player and many many others. There are plenty of free removal tools, you'll find one eventually.

When you say re-booting I take it you mean re-installing windows? this would get rid of any spyware. It would also remove all your programs, and you'd lose all your documents and any saved things so make sure you back everything up. You'd also have to re-install all your drivers for new devices such as printers ,phones etc. It is well worth doing if you can though, you'll probably notice a pretty big speed increase on your computer as well because windows tends to get clogged up after a while (XP is a lot better than old versions of windows though)

For anti virus use AVG FREE edition (YES it s FREE, and fully functional with updates all the time) at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

For spyware removal download try SpyBot Search & Destroy (It's FREE and works perfectly)

Or give Ad-Aware a go (Also FREE)

All of the above work perfectly with each other, as they are what I'm using, I've also got Norton running at the same time.
