cant believe ive done it. after nearly 12 years working in the same place, i handed in my notice yesterday. i couldnt do it all in one go - i had to type up the letter on Wednesday, then print it on Thursday, then i left it on boss's desk yesterday.

you may have seen my other (old) thread about changing career into IT. ive been brushing up on what skills/technologies im behind on, but work is so stressful at the minute that i dont have time or inclination to concentrate when i get back home. plus the next few months (in retail over Christmas) would probably have finished me off. so in 4 weeks i'll be a free (and unemployed) man.

still applying for jobs like mad so hopefully something will come along sooner or later.

what i've done has still not sank in yet. i think when i've only got a few days left it'll start to get weird. it's a shame cos there are some really great people there, and (until the last couple of years) its been enjoyable (although still tough) to work there.

Top bloke for doing what is right for you, so many of us don't and sit around miserable or stressed to the point where it affects everyone around us.

I remember your thread a while ago so I know you have been thinking about it for a long time.

Stand, be strong and you will not look back.

All the best mate, being in the wrong job is just not worth it for your own well being. Hope you find your perfect job very quickly.

I had a career change 5 years ago, not by choice tho, i got all mt tools stolen, too much money to replace, so changed direction tatally, allthough i sometimes miss what i used to do, i think it done me a favor, not looked back since i made headway in leaps and bounds so can be a good decision to change career.

good luck hope it works out

Don't blame you bud, if you're not happy, then it's what you have to do. You've got to be happy in yourself!!

...

Good on you Dave and good luck finding something in IT. You've got a degree in software engineering mate , that counts for something! I was thinking of you the other day actually. Apparently software engineers are one of the most sought after skills in IT at the moment. Take a look at Computing weekly (think thats what its called) they often do skills in demands write ups.
