somebody?

Sling a rope under the engine mounts on either side. Just be carefull it doesn't interfere with any pipework ;)

cheers mate. could i not put a rope under the camshaft?

Camshaft no, Crankshaft yes. Engine mounts are preferable tho as these are load bearing parts

too late. put rope straight round camshaft and lifted it straight out. surprised at how small the engine actually is. how do you get the heads of. cant get to the allen key bolts without using the long end of the allen key and not enough leverage

find yourself a suitable straight allen key no bends, place 1/2" 10mm socket over it, use a breaker bar and short extension and undo each one

do i need to remove the cams first? how many bolts hold the head on? cheers greg

no need to remove cams or sprockets, just undo all 8 head bolts per head so 16 in total, and dont forget the 10mm bolt on each head, you may laugh but i have seen someone try to remove the head with this on, and they were there for about 2hours :xxx:

Also you'll prob need to remove the pass side exhaust manifold - the dipstick runs behind it and won't thread through ;)

Oh forgot to say - you are one lucky puppy! Camshafts are amazingly brittle I'm suprised they didn't shatter!!!!

wasnt bothered about the engine. its getting scraped anyway, just didnt want it falling on my car or foot. lol im just about to go chop an allen key up to use to remove heads. is the nuts on the cams a regular thread or reverse thread? how do i stop the cams turning?

unsure what you mean, do you wish to remove cam sprockets?you can use a 1" spanner open end on the camshaft you will see this on the camshaft itself, you can then undo the bolt that passes through the centre of the inner cam sporckets, if you have an airgun you can wizz the bolts out without locking of the camshaft/s

if you mean the journals/caps that hold the camshaft in the head's then there just 10mm regular thread

or cut the dipstick off :smash: but if your keeping the old one i wouldnt recomend it :p
