Anyone else try to go to this at the weekend?!

What a farce!

Best summed up by the comments here... http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/content/articles/2006/07/05/red_bull_air_race_2006_feature.shtml

Took 4h20mins to get there from Farnborough (should have been about 2h), and even that was with some deft re-navigation when confronted with each of the many queues. Optimistically left the car in the car-park but after 15 mins we realised that it wouldn't be on anyway (but it was another 1h30mins before it was announced) and headed back home.

Then, some 45 mins into our journey back home at some traffic lights, the bloke in front got out and asked us where the red car park was for the air race! We said we'd given up, but at this point it hadn't officially been cancelled and he headed back in the direction of Longleat :slap:

What a waste of a day :( , and shame on Red Bull for the crap organisation :nono:

I went there on Thursday with my woman just to go round the Safari Park but got to watch the planes practicing all day as a Brucie bonus. I guess I got to see more than you then fella, thats just sh1t luck.

I found out there was a horrific car crash people killed that's why the roads were bad and no one could get to the Race. So in the end it was cancelled. This came from another forum so info might be incorrect.

The reason it was cancelled was purely due to the weather.

The reason the traffic was bad was that the roads just couldn't handle 100,000 people trying to get to Longleat through the country lanes leading there. Which was made far, far worse by their so-called traffic control. That consisted of traffic lights simply stopping the flow of traffic, rather than prioritising flow from congested areas.

Though apparently there were quite a few crashes- they sounded like small prangs rather than biggies though.
