Has anyone replaced a rear quarter on a z32?

I have been looking around body panel sites but cant find anywhere that do replacement rear quarter panels.

Does anyone know of anywhere that sell ZX panels ?

I found both o/s and n/s rear quarter panels on e-bay..... for a z31 :(

Please have a look at pics of damaged quarter @ http://dannysamworth.tripod.com/zx_rear_quarter

Any help or suggestions would be much apriciated.

(as long as its not 'give up' and scrap it, because i know thats what i should have done a long time ago)

ps.. an idea i keep thinking about is to 'cut' a section from a z that someone is breaking and replacing my mashed up thing !!!! or does that sound mental.

cheers, Danny

Not mental at all. As I said in an email to you the other day I have just cut a perfectly good shell in to pieces and thrown it away. I only wanted a passenger sill and floor cut myself.

Just offer to take someones shell away after they have finished stripping it. Then using a 9" angle cutter chop out wot u need.

Then its a case of several hours with the spot weld drill. Drilling out weld spots. Replace damaged area with material from donor. Re-weld the spots back in and add a few short runs for extra strength.

Im just sorry I didnt know about your problem till it was too late.

BTW... your tank is now on the way.

Yeah, buy my shell and change the engine over! That's really the only other opition, unless someone can prove me wrong.

I really need to find what ever is the cheapest, easiest option.

See, after 4 days of owning the car it got that damage, and right then and there i should have wiped my chops and scrapped it.

but i was still paying off over £3000 finance.

I paid out over £250 for suspension parts, and wheel to get it back on the road.

Then i burnt the clutch out and it has been of the road for over 18 months.

I had a new clutch fitted, replaced the door, replacing the rusted exhausts, replacing the damaged tank (cheers pete) replaced a door mirror, replaced a targa panel ect ect.

The car stands me in so much time and money i just cant go back. it would break my heart.

even once all complete the car wont be worth FA, but i just need to get my moneys worth as for the week i drove it wasnt enough.

I know now its gone beyond sense, the amount of work, time and money not to mention bad luck i have had all tells me to give up.

But its now my mission to get that poxy car back on the road for as cheap as possible.

contact one of the breakers on the site to see if they have a shell which you could take a cut from. they must get them taken away all the time for scrap.

get a rear quarter off a scrap car and get it fitted on. i dont know what labour prices up your end of england are but down here in the north west it would cost £200-250 to get the quarter replaced. fairly simple job for a body shop.

its not too hard to do it yourself if you were up to doing it your self.

basicly you need to remove as many parts as possible from the surrounding area, then look carefully and find all the spot welds and drill them all out, then split the joints with a chisel and remove the panel. grind down all the edges so they are flat.

now you have removed the damaged quarter it'll be easier to remove the undamaged one with out messing it up.

once its removed clean the edges up and offer it up and line it up and hold it in place with clamps, mole grips, and tack weld it up if you not happy with the alignment grind the tack welds and re do it untill its perfect and weld it up.

grind all the welds till they smooth and prep it with filler and panel sealer it in places that are not externally visible. then prep it for paint. hope this helps

Hi Danny,

Sorry to hijack your thread but I thought it important to point out that you are not me ;) What I mean by that is that my full name is Danny Zaat and I often use "DannyZ" as an ID on this and other forums. As I am a trader on this forum I thought it important to make the distinction. :)

Hijack over ...

Regards,

Dan

Thanks for the help and advice everyone.

I think i will go with the option of buying a rear quarter section from someones old shell.

I dont have the means or room to actually take the whole shell away with me.

I think i will give up with body filler, the cars starting to lean one side !!

Thanks, Danny

I've got a scrapper in my back garden, want me to hack the rear quarter off it for you? ;) Also MJP sell replacement body panels ;) Not sure if they do the rear quarter (they do wheel arches) but I'm sure they could get one fabbed up for you if you needed it. Like I say, if you want me to hack this quarter off, just let me know :)

Oooops, http://www.mjpauto.com ;) Mike Feeney, very helpfull chap :)

can do the same with mine if you like, black lwb, come down and give me a hand to take it off and its yours!

(although wings closer to you, and hes a top bloke ;) )
