i'm currently using it as i used to use optimax. so far haven't noticed much difference but perhaps its cos they are possibly blending it until optimax is fully out of the tanks. i will keep using it for a few weeks to make sure .

V-power is 99 octane compared to Optimax which was 98. V-power is the repalcement for Optimax which is being phased out.

I'm now using it and the difference I noticed is that when the turbos spool up, the punch is harder. The top end is no real difference to Optimax though. Great for traffic light drag races as the owner of a Yamaha R6 was shocked to find out last weekend ;) :D

Gareth

just started using it and my arse notices a difference, on the local test track i am 5mph faster than normal at a set point

Yes, filled up last week and today and I can't notice any difference between any other petrol.

Didn't notice any difference to be honest although my car keeps stalling now (petrol related?? lol)

It does pull like a train from 70-90 now though.

just put 20 quids worth in a nearly empty tank, and by christ what a difference the car seems much more responsive and a damn sight quicker, cant fault it.

am i right in saying that you will only notice any differance if your car is mapped to run on jap fuel as they are mapped to run on 100ron. if mapped to run on uk fuel (95ron) you wont notice any differance

Well after a week of using it and it's nearly time to fill up again i've noticed my Z is a lot more torquey, pulls harder, spit's flames out of the exhaust in certain conditions and i'm getting better MPG too!!! A winner all round IMHO!!! Thanks Shell!!!

Right I'm off to shell to fill up tomorrow now, I have been using tesco 98 ron but I cant realy tell any difference between that and poverty fuel tbh :smash:

I was about to ask the same question as mine's a UK spec and wasn't sure if Shell V stuff would make any difference and as it would mean a trip off to get some I was wondering if anyone had tried it in a UK spec first. I'm being lazy LOL

Doesn't matter dude, you'll still notice a massive difference... I remember when my UKTT was running a stock ECU and going from normal unleaded to Optimax, the difference was quiet noticeable in terms of performance and better fuel economy...

It's basic rule of maths really, Shell V power cause of it's higher octain rating is more combustable so, stick a spark to it and away we go + cause it burns more efficently, you'll notice you get better MPG... Now let's stick some water in it to dilute it a-bit... Your Zed will run but yeah like a big bag of poo!!!

If your ECU is mapped for 99 Octain or above, then basically the fuel map will allow you to run a little more boost at any given point in the RPM cycle as the air fuel mixture will be just right thus avoiding det... Not to lean and not to rich, this is why guys running DTA (Macca :D) can get silly power!!!

"Shell, Silly Power!" Available at all good petrol pumps now!! :D

Does anywhere sell lower than 95ron?!

Not in the Uk, no.

Unleaded = 95ron

Super unleaded = 97ron

BP Ultimate = 97ron

Optimax = 98ron

Tesco/esso 99 = 99ron

V-power = 99ron

in reference to johns thing about higher ron meaning more power thats not so mate, it means how resistant to pre ignition it is thats all really, this allows greater compression ( ie higher boost) safer. The smoother running and better burn comes from the fuels extra additives that give it a higher octane rating.

so as i asaid earlier if your car is mapped to run 95 ron ie uk cars you should notice no or little difference

Yes dude, I totally agree with you, so as not to contridict myself it's not all about the ron rating, that was just one element that makes up the difference in power, it's the quality of the overall fuel product itself and just means the tunablilty of the engine running the better fuel has a few more tolerances...

For all no believers out there, try V-Power for yourselves on whatever setup your running, it's worth a go... I've filled up again today after my first taste of V-Power last week which was mixed with the old Optimax still left in my tank from last time... Now running on pure V-Power and it's good..... Very Good....

Remember that dyno test 5th Gear did a while ago between the different fuels, normal unleaded, esso super plus, bp ultimate and shell optimax??? Optimax gained the Suburu a lot more power than the other two leading brands so it does work else why would they sell it... It's not just us with our Zed's, think about BMW and Merc Drivers and all the other makes of car out there, everyone will benifit...

Thats why shells premium fuels get better results than some higher octane fuels. They have additives get better burn and many tuners can make more aggressive maps run with this fuel. V-power is highly recommended if you run a JDM car with JDM ECU or aftermarket map as you WILL notice a difference.

Chris C

I have filled up with it. Seem to get marginal better performance and a few more mpg.

Have a look at the link below it will show where to get it at the best price locally.

The good news at least is that the price seems to be going the right way

From personal experience (stock UK TT) I tend to agree with this.

I have used optimax as well as Shell regular u/l and performance wise I have noticed very little difference. However where Optimax has been beneficial is during very hot weather - when the ambient temp was over 30 degrees last year I would occasionally get lower boost (possibly det/safety) on BP 95ron (and sometimes Shell 95ron) yet with Optimax it never happened. I could accelerate hard with full boost, no problems.

Also Optimax has occasionally (though not always) given me more miles per tank over similar driving styles.

I suspect V-power will prove similar in the long run, although I filled up with it last week from 1/4 full (of Optimax) and the car feels the same as before......

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I've always found Optimax makes the engine run more smoothly than standard unleaded in both my cars.

96.9p/litre for V power near me :D. Super Unleaded is down to 91.9p too.

normal unleaded is still 93.9 here. esso super unleaded version is 98.9 and thats only 97ron
