how is your IP address determined. is it from your computer or your Internet service provider and how can i change mine. dont want to use a proxy server

It's from your isp and it cannot be changed unless you leave your modem switched off for more than 24hrs and hope that someone else takes your current one, only then will your IP change.

a lot of broadband services give you a static IP anyway so theres no changing it. Only reaosn you would want to is if you are up to no good anyway ;)

I imagine that is VPN software, most of the time it is impossible to change your own IP.

You've usually got to pay extra for a static IP address that doesn't change (used when you want to connect reguarly to your computer from remote locations), otherwise ISPs normally allocate one from a pool when you connect.

You can also use programs like http://www.yourfreedom.net which tunnels your internet via another server, so it will use their IP.

Some ISP base IP addresses on MAC address, so plugging your cable modem in to another ethernet port can give you another IP address.

Cable internet tend to keep the same IP address for months at a time. I am not sure about ADSL, if they are like the old dialup modem, it changes every time you dial up. Never had adsl so I dont know how it works.

Why do you want to change you address? If you are worried about it, phone your ISP and ask them to change it because of reason x. I hope you have not been trying to hack some one. ;)

i have about 10,000 of the buggers and i think about 32million ivp6's

anyone wanna swap :)

i am on blueyonder which is meant to have a dynamic IP, i've had the same IP for 5 years now, which is good because its on a lot of access lists.

no i got barred from a site because some people disagreed with some things i said. its business related and i need to get back on it. im planning on changing my user name but the site recognises my ip address. proxy servers are to slow
