HELP PLEASE! My ABS warning light won’t go off - please can someone tell me what is the most likely thing to have gone wrong, what checks I can do, etc in order to fix it (I’m really hoping it’s gonna be cheap 'cos I'm dead skint at the moment).

Is the car safe to drive?

By the way, I have the mechanical ability of a slug, so the simpler the better!

THANKS!!!!!

Sounds simple but have you checked the brake fluid is topped up?

I'm no expert either but one of the clever boys will probably be along soon.

It may be one of the relays in the boot is stuck (on RHS under plastic panel). I've had this happen myself, and if that's the case a sharp tap with the blunt end of a screwdriver should fix it temporarily. However if this were the case it's likely that your ABS pump wouldn't switch off after you switch of the ignition, and this could obviously lead to a flat battery if not rectified.

If you do need a new ABS unit it won't be cheap as I understand it, but one of the traders on here might be able to help you - you might also be able to pick up a second-hand one for not too much money from Andy at supercarparts (I think they're called).

Waring light on all the time means there is a fault in the system which can be checked by doing an abs diagnostic at the abs ecu and counting the led flashes, the car is ok to drive, just the ABS has been disabled, alos the car will not pass an MOT with the light not functioning correctly, most likely a wheel sensor fault, had any work done recently close to a wheel sensor? reason been they can fail if knocked when say splitting a ball joint etc.
