My little brother wants SatNav for his first car but he figures he may as well go the PDA route as he can use it for other things as well then. Does anyone have a PDA with SatNav or recommendations. He quite fancies the Navman PiN 570.

don't get the navman, it's a waste of time and has lots or reliability problems. IF he really needs PDA functionality He's better off getting a PDA, then the TomTom kit with a bluetooth GPD receiver.

ive just put TOM TOM 5 on my PDA, just waiting for the gps receiver to come in the post now.

I've had TomTom on the Palm T3 for ages now. I've got the bluetooth receiver for it. I upgraded to version 5 when it came out and have been pretty pleased with it to be honest - especially the full postcode searches... very handy. I used to use the Palm for other stuff as well, but now work have given me one of those new fangled blackberry things, so my poor Palm only gets used for Sat Nav now.

I think a lot of the smart phones support GPS navigation now as well.

Thanks, I will pass on the info.

I posted a similar thread last week, regarding my Nokia N80 phone and the Route 66 software, didn't get any responses here, but did on another forum, where I got this response...

Dave, Sam & I have Nokias 6610 and bought them as a package complete with Bluetooth GPS and we had supplied with ours, Navicore which is apparently very similar to the Route 66 software mate.

At the end of the day, the softwares are all very similar, IMHO, its the performance of the phone and the GPS Bluetooth Dongle that you need and we found them to be bloody great!!

In all honesty, we don't use them as our main Sat Nav system, we have a PDS with Tom-Tom (Crap) and Medion Software (Suprisingly Good!!), but what they are GREAT for is if you hit a traffic jam or get lost etc and don't have the Sat Nav with you, put the bluetooth GPS on, slap your phone on and and tell it where you want to go, they've got us out of a few messes in the past with flying colours.

In all honesty, I've found them to be a great assett and would say go for it!!

Hope that is of some help to you. I've gone down the route I was thinking of, as I don't want to spend any more money of kit I'll just not use, so I'm using my phone (with the new Symbian 60 software) that will have the Route 66 software especially designed for it, along with a Nokia GPS unit for the dash, got the whole lot from a company on ebay for just over £100 delivered (well it will be when it turns up later this week)

Cheers Dave, very useful advice.

So you have a Nokia N80 and do you have Ebayer link for what you have purchased?

Thanks

I would, but the scamming gits are trying to sell stuff they don't have in stock!!!!!! Just found out today, after I phoned them to ask why it hadn't all turned up, and was told they don't have any of the Route 66 in stock. Bloody typical, as I've scoured the internet and everyone that quotes a price around the £50 to £60 bracket don't have any in stock either, but you can buy it if you wana pay £200!!!!

I have had an Acer N35 for a couple of months now. It has a built in GPS reciever which is neat and tidy. No bluetooth support.

I have also bought and fitted a SIDO wireless LAN card to access the internet, something surreal about surfing the net on the sofa on something as big as a calculator :D

Standard software installed was Destinator, it's ok, but does not cover all areas by postcode. But I recently installed TOMTOM5 and that is much better software package.

Reccomended ;)
