Hi all,

Rite here goes, ive had a leak comin from my passenger intake pulley, at first we put it down to a cam seal but later found out by trail and error that it's leakin from the pulley itself, i know this cause the cam seal is bone dry and its the third pulley ive had on!! :headvswal

Heres the interesting bit each pulley that has started to leak, when u have it off and in ur both ur hands ur able to turn it, as in the centre of the pulley can turn within itself, so diff to explain without actually seein it, but before i put them on they were solid u couldnt turn the centre of them!!

So my question is how in the name of fryer r they doin this!?! Its almost as tho when the belt turns the pulleys that there is a resistance at the cam causing it to do this!!

Really hope one of u guys comes through on this cause i cant keep on drivin her like this, and the amount of money ive already throwin at the car, i really dont want to let her go, cause they r such a joy to drive when they go!!!

Cheers Andy. :)

Its deffo comin from the front cause i have cam covers off and u can see a line of oil on the inside of the bonnet!!

is the O ring present on the front cap ?

Yeah it is, its deffo not that, the line of oil on the bonnet is directly in line with the back of the pulley, which is why i thought it would be the seal but its dry must be comin from the pulley itself, as i said everytime its starts to leak u can turn the centre of the pulley within itself when u have it off and in ur hands!!

Andy do what I did on mine which as you know exact same problem.

Start engine ( covers off obviously) and stand at the side of the car nearest the pulley you think is leaking, now holding a piece of white paper close to that pulley say around 3ins away, you will see the spray of oil hiting the paper and clearly idenify exactly which pulley and from the front/rear or pulley itself.

Hope that helps :)

cheers

Yes ive done this with the paper and to be honest when i put the pulley on (this is the third pulley ive had on) it didnt leak at first sittin at tick over but when i took her for a drive there it was a line of oil on the inside of the bonnet directly in line with the rear of the pulley :headvswal , ive now taken this pulley off and it has now got the same syptoms as the rest of the pulleys which have started to leak, as in u can turn the centre part of pulley within itself that whats causing the prob but i dont know how, just need to find some guru that does, if it wasnt for this site bein able to least talk about it, i wouldnt prob down in the bar with litre bottle of vod in front of me!!!

its not coming from the crank seal is it or lower down being spread by the belts ?

Its deffo not comin from the crank seal had this replaced and all the belts are dry!! :headvswal

I have the same problem on mine, only on the right hand intake pulley. I have replaced the cam seals twice to no avail, and the 'o' ring is in good order too!

When i saw this post, it jogged my memory of a link i saw, someone had soldered the seem on the backside of the pulley to cure this problem. I have done some searching, but cant seem to find it again, and this is really the only zx site i use! If i do find the link in the meantime, ile post it up.

Cheers Steve

Still cant find the link i saw before (had pics too) but if you scroll down to 'intake camshaft sprockets' on this link http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/timingBelt/timingBelt.html, you will see he has soldered his pulleys.

I going to do mine soon now, and solder the other one too, before it leaks!

Cheers Steve

Mate u r an absolute legend,  u have no idea how that makes me feel knowin that i can now fix me Zed cheaply and quickly, if u can find that link give me a PM, and deffo think it should be put in the relevant place on this site for future reference!! Cheers again buddy!! :D
