hi everyone

this is my first post, although i joined a while back but i mostly just browse! anyway,i have a 96 300zx non turbo(jap import) automatic and i love it to bits, had it over a year and no problems......until now and as usual its not straight forward although it might be to you guys! right, everything fine on startup and when driving but once the engine warms up and the auto choke kicks off it starts playing up. it does it when im in gear and on the brakes when stationary at the lights say,the engine revs drop from about 800rpm to about 500rpm,then it starts chasing itself, reving on its own then falling and chugging etc, when i accelerate its fine, just when stationary. its now stalled a couple of times. booked it into nissan,i knew i was gonna be a crap day cos it stopped doing it on the way there, they could find nothing wrong and suprise suprise i got half way home and it started doing it again! ive now lost confidence in it and am avoiding driving as much as possible! the guy at nissan said it may be my air flow meter and to replace it would cost 550 quid(ouch) but i dont know for sure if it is this! any help or advice would be appreciated. oh i live near brentwood in essex! (in case you care!!lol) and no im not an essex boy!!!dont start!lol

cheers mate, wiil do. shit man, everyone is well helpfull, thanks! i feel like im getting somewhere now!!lol

Hi mate, Welcome firstly. & secondly give Mike Feeney a call at MJP auto (he's in the Traders Section) he's not to far from you. If that fails give Zen, Ztech or any of the other traders a go...

This is a personal opinion but valid I hope; Nissan don't really understand these cars and charge well OTT for parts! There are almost always cars be broken up and you can get some really good parts off here so get yourself a subscription, it's only £20 and these guys and gals really know their stuff.... cheers bud!

I had a similar problem to yours, this is gonna be so easy for you to try too!

Between engine and fan you will see 2 temp sensors, remove the connector on the one with the yellow cap and clean up the terminals at either end, refit and give her a run out! ;)
