 Must be something in the air with the filth cause on fri night i was driving to my local chinese and guess what :headvswal when i came out there they were waiting for me over my number plate, even though he could clearly read the letters on it and already done a full check on the car yet they still give me a producer. what a set of t*****s should go and do some druggy or thief instead of always picking on the easy targets (motorists) that don't involve having to work hard.

I am willing to stand corrected on this but from what I remember both plates have to comply with British Standard. They must be stamped BSAU145 followed by a letter relating to the relevant version of the standard when they were manufactured. This is usually stamped into the clear plastic on the front of the plate. If your plates were made as 'show plates' by an unlicensed manufacturer they probably won't have this mark and despite the fact that they comply in size to the regulations they won't be 'road legal'.

As a retired copper (20+ years on traffic) I sympathise with your feelings. When I was on the job we had discretion and were able to 'caution' motorists for minor offences. This does not appear to be the case today. Due to greater public accountability this discretion has been taken away. To judge whether he's doing his job correctly some greater arsehole counts up the tickets he's issued and if he hasn't written enough he's in trouble. Performance related pay may be involved in this. Your performance cannot be measured by the amount of *****ckings or 'advice' you dish out. I know there are serving officers on this site who may be able to correct me if I'm wrong.

A few years ago a traffic cop would probably have stopped you and complemented you on having a great car. Not so today I'm afraid.

Just tell them the plate is for the show and you have the originals at home which you will put back on tommorow, officer please, yes sir. please, thank you :D ;)

In the mean time some poor old age pensioner gets mugged or burgled, someone gets stabbed etc etc the list of crimes that scrotes get away with goes on while the filth are to busy picking on trivel things.

Is it worth sturring up a hornets nest for the sake of paying 30 quid fine? Might as well just pay it and let it go put it down to experience, you domt want the cnts on your back by upsetting them, years ago i had a copper on my back hounding me constantly driving up and down my road pulling me over every time he see me driving cnt even lied in court wasnt happy untill he cost me my licence even then didnt stop, wrote letters of complaint to the police all to no avail, was a bast**d to get him off my back think he got office job in the end thats what stopped it even his collegues thought he was a cnt. Ambitious man, never get in the way of an ambitious man.

ive been there mate ****in tossers the lot of em(trafic police that is)

then he went and nicked jeremy for a small plate and was about to nick paul c but he fooked off pretty sharpess well done paul,,,,,i told him my plate is legal as my boy is cid and he help me buy them online and made sure they were to the letterof the law

Yes - I was not pleased. I have a 99 spec bumper and as it is an import the DVLA say:

"Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles

(which have a restricted space for a standard sized number plate)

Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:

The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval

AND

The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates

Specifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)

Character Height 64mm

Character Width 44mm

Character Stroke 10mm

Space between characters 10mm"

My number plate conforms to all these criteria, with the exception of the width - my characters are 42mm not 44mm. So technically the copper was right, though he had to get his tape measure out to check !! I suggested that he might have something better to do with his time, like catching proper criminals. He did wish me a "nice day" too :xxx: after issuing me a £30 fine !

Wrong place and time today fellas :( Someone said that he'd been specifically told to target illegal plates today but he was obviously on a bit of a power trip :(

Sure I would have been done as well if I'd had my car there today..

Gutted for both of you :(

Sounds to me like number plate checking is HIGH priority at the moment.

With ANPR systems waiting to spring into action, the goverment wants to ensure we can all be duly nicked as we should be and unlike in any other fookin country.

At the end of the day its only a number plate, it not gonna change the performance or looks of the car so we all might as well conform to the law and save ourselfs a lot of aggro and money? Then that will fuk their little plans up, cant help wondering how he knew you was all gonna be there?Or was it a randum check?

Jason,

He was a total twat, how to make friends and influence people comes to mind, we should of created a diversion on the other side of the car park, then i could have used my 14" petrol cutter.

Cheers for a good fun day, all be it in the plumbing van. (Its not as quick as the zed's)

stu

Motorists are easy targets always will be !

No detective work involved as your easy to trace via computer

Now if your car gets nicked and they have to come out to your house thats to fookin difficult ! :headvswal

One word Cooooonts

And i have 1 in the family im sorry to say ! :xxx:

well ive been on to the police and they have dropped the ghosted beast thing now,but still want to see my plate for size as they are saying its a uk car and they are looking into the sizes reguarding my car,,i ask you

I agree with everyone else that this guy is a cnut on a power trip trying to up his quota................

BUT............

you did give him the rope to hang you with mate! :x:

Also, if you are using this as an argument for a small plate, you will be screwed by the next copper on a power trip because you're wrong!

The '99 spec IS able to accomodate a standard UK plate.

I know, I have one on mine because I don't want some prick in a uniform doing me 'cos he's having a bad day!

Rant over.

Time to get back in me cage.

Still,

It keeps em away from Criminals and doing anything useful to society, like locking the fookers up so they can't beat and rob grannies etc.

If PLOD can only go after your car that is obviously.....When there are lots of chavy sh*t on the road with NO MOT or insurance. I think it's a poor show. What a coont. unlucky Bud.

You are kidding right? Full size UK plates are ugly as hell. And it will affect performance too, it almost completely covers up one of the air ducts in the bumper.

It is all down to interpretation of the DVLA rules. The standard size UK plate on a 99 spec bumper overhangs the mounting - therefore it has "restricted space for a standard sized number plate"

but it sticks out, it CAN easily accomodate a standard size plate and any idiot can see that, you're not going to fool anyone with that excuse. If it was a recess then you would have a point, but it isnt/
