In his second year mine was flying at between 1lb 6 3/4 and 1lb 7 3/4 depending whether we were hunting or not. Have you been doing falconry long ?

This is my first bird that I have flown well apart from the Barn Owl.

I have kept Birds of Prey in the past but they were injured birds that could not be flown. I had a little owl for 12 years and a Buzzard for 5 years.

Jeremy just bought my Telemetry system today so he will be flying free tomorrow night and I thought running zeds was expensive :wack:

Fingers crossed for you mate - let me know how you get on.

I never used telemetry - just had a pair of tail bells and prayers !!

It might be an idea to have him slightly underweight - so he is a bit "keener"

Thanks mate,he is very keen he is following me before I even call him I think I will need the Telementry system next year when I get my Peregrine I know its a little OTT for a Harris as they dont really go that far. I have a mate that lost his in a corn field it dropped on a rabbit two fields away and he lost it for 24 hrs.

I would loved to have flown a Peregrine.

My Harris was up a tree for a day and a (very wet and windy) night, due to him being 1/4 oz overweight !! I got up at first light after a sleepless night and he was still in the same place. He was soaked when he finally came down the next day !! I only made that mistake once !

Wey Hey....Lord Litchfield eat ya heart out. :o   ;)

I missed this thread Mac. They are stunning mate. I was going to do a course with a falconer down in Dorset a year or two back. Its awesome flying them, I love watching them. In the end I went for something more cuddly and practical, Molly my macaw :) I'd definitely like to get into falconary one day though. Me and the missus were talking about doing it on horse back (she works with horses). Heres a shot of Molly:

I'm planning on free-flying Molly one day. Its not the same as with rapters because parrots arn't so food orientated but there are people that do it successfully. She still has clipped wings from her previous owners but I'm letting them grow back and working on recall training. She goes pretty much everywhere with me, gets lots of attention

Oh!, and my doves will have your rapters any day, they're much bigger than your owl for starters!!:
