As you push down on the clutch pedal the first 3-4 inches does absolutley nothing then you push down from about halfway to the floor you can feel resistance but its hardly enough to be able to select a gear!

When you do eventually manage to get it into a gear the bite point is so low almost as soon as you let clutch up!

The clutch is brand new only covering around 5000 miles i would say and this problem seems to of just occured overnight as when i last used it everything seemed fine its so wierd!!!

Can anyone help me as the car is basically stranded unable to get it into gear!!! :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal

Clutch is hydraulic operated.

Leaking slave cyl or master cyl is probably the cause.

You might also need check the "free play" adjustment. But happening suddenly points to hydraulic failure. HTH

Might be worth bleeding the system to make sure you've not got any trapped air. Would recommend the bleed nipple under the bonnet on the driver's side wing. Loosen the nipple and get someone to pump the clutch. When fluid starts to flow from the nipple, it should have expelled any air.

If it's not the above, the pedal may need adjusting

No it wont be too expensive. Worst case scenario new slave cyl and reseal the M cyl. Ideal time to add in a braided clutch hose.

Or you could be really lucky as Cybernet suggests and get away with bleeding it.

My concern here is... If it was OK and suddenly isnt even air in the system means the seals are gone or about to go completely

Anyway Worst case scenario is a parts bill of less than £100.

Now go to bed and dont forget to brush your teeth!!!!
