Lots of threads and posts at the moment about how much money has been spent on your zeds.. Just want to show you - you are not alone. Many people have spent tons of money on their pride and joy. It is a passion - and all passions cost money. Just think - when your car is finished - how many cars will perform as well - look as good - be as practical or as comfortable as your zed?

None - and if there are some cars out there that can match up - you would have to spend £100k more to buy it!

So relax - put your mouth where your money is and be proud to show everyone what a good investment your zed was and how much you have put into her.

What else can be had for big-ish money?

Merc CL500 (5 litre V8 - plus don't knock it till you've seen one parked next to a Zed - makes the Zed look like a cheap little toy) - £20K for a 2001 car.

Maserati 3200GT (V8 biturbo) - £20K for a 2001 car.

You'd probably get a 2004 Monaro for £15K now too.

Big respect to all those people who've spent loads on their Zeds but I wouldn't do it as it's money you never see back.

I've definately spent more than I'd planned to with the Z32 but the insidious thing about the spending is that it's a bit at a time...a couple of hundred here, a thousand there. Smaller payments are easier to justify (read: convince yourself about i.e. whatever get's you through the night ;)) and on the surface are much easier to swallow than stumping up the money you'd need for another car.

Bottom line is, if you're into modifying cars you become very adept at fooling yourself (not to mention the little lady ;)). The tricky thing is, knowing when to say enough is enough. Invariably it leaves you with two options: either sell up and move on (with the inevitable loss) or more positively, say I'm happy where I'm at now and just enjoy the fruits of your labour.

i'm at just under 5k so far not including the car and i havent even serviced it yet,lol

Paul

From buying the car 6 years ago and to the spec I have now I last counted 56k still need a few more quid to complete but at this level there is never a final ammount.

Deffinately. Although I intend on spending another £5k on mine in odds and sods. Retrim, complete suspension upgrade, few bits of bodywork, possibly Stillen bumper extensions, better brakes maybe.

Different way of spending money though Tim, invest it like I have done with property or enjoy it like I have done with the Z if I was offered every penny back I have spent on it in exchange for the car I could honestly say I would not part with it.

In past 2 years, £2.5k on upgrades....and a couple of hundred on Maintenance.

Will be more like £10k during the next couple of months though

that is some searious money. i suppose you call you car "project 300K" lol

no bud .. Thunder & Lightning ... wait till you see and hear her ... not to everynes taste agreed but its a demo vehicle for what i do

I can see why you're user name is ZX MAD. You'd have to be mad to spend that on a 300ZX!

LOL Si .. nah wait till you see whats going inside it .. now that IS mad

Far play to you mate. I'm glad people do it. And I'm sure you've worked hard for your money and are entitled to enjoy it. I love to see modified cars.

At this point in my life, I'm just too tight/skint to justify heavily modifying a car myself. Maybe I'll do it sometime inthe future. I'd love a MK IV Supra with a Veilside Fortune kit, top-spec wheels and a reliable, useable 450bhp.... and maybe a interior retrim, uprated stereo.... Some day!

But don't you see Si.. what car would be as good for that money? I can't think of anything. Plus the fact he did it to his own design...... and it would be a pretty unique car when he's finished..

I say good on you mate! Keep up the good work!

Steve .. spot on .. its about personal choice .. i could go out tomorrow and spend 40k on a new car but have it the same as everyone else .. or i could do my Zed and say boll***s to normality

its nice to see people who encourage this like you have rather than people who always have a negative oppinion .. thanks bud

im upto £31k including buying the car last november!!

if i included my other 2 zeds i am upto about £50-55k i would imagine!! but dont tell the wife lol

its not always about the money though bud ... for me its a challenge and a hobby .. when i was 18/19 i built a 1200hp sit up n beg V12 supercharged ford popular which cost me a mint to build and it wasnt even road legal .. but what a buzz when i took it down the strip staring at the sky for the first second or so

You name me another car that is still about today that has been mass produced on the scale the zed was, is 15 years old and looks as good today as any moden car? The zed does imo and was light years ahead of its time when it was built, thats why you got one too coz you know it, and thats why we spend the money, you aint gonna get anything else in its league, those days are gone forever

I have to agree with funky, anyo9ne who spends 40k+ on a zed needs help.

Makes me laugh really, we slate chavs here for spending money on crap for a nova but happily spend 40k on a 14 year old car worth 4k

what does that say ?

i love my car, and i cant think of a car id rather have right now, but you have to be real too

not at all, he might be on mega bucks and forty grand to him might be like a grand to me, its all relative!!!

i bought my zed over 3 years ago for £4750 and ive spent at least £6k! soon to be more!!

yorkshire mentalist nutters!!

i used to keep a record but stopped because of chest pains :x: . But I would estimate around 12k euro. Worth every last f*cking penny :hyper: . Oh, forgot the 100euro i had to pay the mrs to drive it around the village last week so i could drive behind it in her volvo and see that sexy ass in action...i'm not kidding, she hates driving it so cash was the only option :o

I've spent about £5.5k total incl buying the car. I guess I'm lucky I don't have the urge to mod it to high heaven and like the car pretty much as is. The next service & MOT will probably cost me a couple of hundred and probably a bit more to get some paintwork touched up and alloys refurbed.
