Hellow folks, i just bought a zx 300 had the believe that its not as powerful as i expected it to be, so i took it for someone to have alook at it for me.He ran a diagnostic test for me and said that it is not pushing the right amount of bhp, its doing about 190bhp at the moment and it should do about 220bhp,he also said that might be due to beceuse of a knock sensor so it thats the case how much will it cost to change the sensor ? and what else might it to lost soo much power? :headvswal

I'm guessing it's a NA (non-turbo)

How was it tested? Was that 190bhp at the wheels or crank?

Age / wear can casue a power loss. Or basic service things like the air filter, plugs etc.

I think the 220-230bhp is a crank figure for a new car.

190bhp at the wheels isn't bad considering it's probably about 15 years old.

hey!!! thank you very much.cheers mate

or you could by-pass it for 20 pence :)

edit--just seen its a n/a, wrong advice :headvswal

so i see that you from penzance, if you fancy hooking up some time dude that will be cool..i live in hayle...cheers mate..

Yeah mate no probs with hooking up , just let me know when , I will bring datascan with me and we will see if your car has any real probs, who did the diagnostic for you as the error codes would of shown a knock sensor fault if he was using datascan or conzult.

Another one from Cornwall. I think we are definately going to have to arrange a meet. Anyone up for one this month? Nothing special, just an evening get together in a local pub or something. Get back from the Bulldog Bash next Monday so will give everyone a call if they are up for it. I think there must be about 5 or 6 of us down here now.

Knock sensor is NOT engine out, but it is a fair amount of work. Upper and lower Plenums needs to come off. 4-6 hours work at a guess.

from what ive heard its easier to take the engine out than do it in situ, would it be easier to just resite a good one than do the old one?

Just to give you my penneth for what it's worth......I'm certainly no expert.

I've had a N/A manual for just a few weeks and it has seemed sluggish to me for a 3000cc car. I took it in to ZTech today and Greg looked it over, checked the timing and said it was retarded (a bit like me) and reset it by 4 degrees. The performance improvement was significant and I am now a happy Zedster.......just in case it helps.
