Fitted my hids a while back but only recently noticed ive lost my drivers side main beam (hids are on the dipped circuit).

Im a bit confused why.... my hids are wired with a new relay wired direct from the battery to the hids. The relay is triggered from the passenger side stock dipped circuit, and then connected to each of the ballasts.

The HID's work fine but i have lost the main beam drivers side. THe sotck nissan dipped circuit drivers side is disconnected (as i only need one trigger for the hids..) but surly the main beam isnt dependant on a working dipped circuit..

Ideas anyone?

(Also, how damn cool are HID's    )

Nar checked it and it works fine in the pass main beam...

Sorry, had to ask ;)

Well, if is WAS working, and the bulb is ok, then it has to be the wiring, or a blown relay.

Is it possible the new bulbs are taking a much higher voltage, and maybe melted the wire going to the non-working side?

Heard of that sort of thing happening before.

The hids dont draw very much at all and the looms look fine, pretty confused about it really... fuses etc ok relays etc working... back to square one me thinks...

Does the main beam take an earth off the headlight caseing itself?

Great someone else with the same issue.

HIDS on Dip work ok if take a little long to warm up. HIDS on main beam momentarily work then driver side cuts out. Come on all you auto electrical types what could this be? All bulbs sound etc.

Chris

my pass side one goes of when ever i flash my lights and i have to turn all the lights off then on again to get it to come back on? so sounds like i have the same problem. Any clues or help also please....

Im only using HID's in the dipped beam but still got the problem , seems there are a few of us.... how strange...

 Great advert for HID's, lol

Do you get some sort of kit? and what does it consist of?

Sounds like you need some sort of power boost relay to increase the ampage or whatever.

Got similar situation.

My passenger side HID dip come on with side lights. Cannot get side light on without N/S HID. Doing my nut in.

Strange, for me, my zed side lights work fine, and the hid's work fine, the only thing that doesnt work now is the stock zed main/full beam on the drivers side. The hids are not drawing any power from the stock cct, and the main beam itself is a seperate cct with different relay and fuses.

Confused as to whats going on really....

Im powering my hids from a new relay wired straight to the battery and triggered by the pass. side dipped cct but dont see how the dipped cct is connected to main beam.

Wow at least I know its not only my car going nuts. Seriously I think I have spent over £400 on my two HID sets and not got a solution yet.

So........anyone fixed this and if so how?

Is there a difference in wiring for 99 spec headlights as they had HIDs as standard right? What about the traders who sell HIDs you must have come up on this seeing as it seems quite common............?

I am reaching the stage where im thinking about wiring my drivers side main beam to the passenger side just to get the fooker working! Dont understand why it has stopped working at all!

I had loads of problems with my HIDs inlcuding symptoms the same as yours and cured them all by making sure the ballast packs were not touching the bodywork of the car, they are now bolted on with a plastic washer between them and the bodywork. I was told to do this by a local autoelectrian and it worked, he did explain why but to be honest it baffled me.

Ballast packs shorting out other electrical systems on the car is (unfortunately) a common occurance. I always advocate isolating the ballast packs with either rubber grommets, etc. However ... "proper" ballast packs should be isolated inside their container - our X3 systems are and because of that they can be mounted straight onto the chassis without the use of isolation materials.

I can't speak for your ballast packs but it is plausible that they are the cause of the headlight problems. I have also heard that certain HID kits, which use a direct 12V feed off the battery and run separate igniters and ballasts, are more susceptible to causing electrical problems.

Not wanting to speak ill of the quality of other HID kits, it does pay to spend a little extra money for quality kits.

I hope the isolation of your ballast packs sorts your problems out.

I would just like to add that my HIDs were not bought from Danny, I dont think you were even selling them at the time unforuantely as I know you only sell quality.

Something to try thanks guys, i will have a lookm this evening.

Does seem strange its only effecting the drivers side though, but worth a look

 Great advert for HID's, lol

Geez yer not wrong there

6 of you having problems, did you all purchase from the same place/have same brand or summitt ? it's best known so that the likes of Danny's kits don't get a bad reputation from the poorer quality ones.. :)

Mine were part of the group buy that Outlander Motorsport did (no longer a trader on here) cant remember the manufacturers name now, sorry.

Ah they will be the "Heart" ones, i have them and touch wood so far so good :)

smithy

Mine were from a group buy about 3 years ago. They work great, I just cannot have side lights on without my N/S dip beam.

I even wired my N/S side lights to O/S side lights and vice versa but still no joy. I think I'm going to have to wire right from dash switch to side lights so she'll pass next MOT.

Thats the ones "Heart" from about 3 years ago so maybe the same as yours Mark, I think the problem is the ballast packs have a metal case so maybe if you isolate yours it will stop your problem, my lights did loads of weird things from the main beam flashing without me touching the stalk to sidelights only working with one dipped beam and also sometimes one main beam so fingers crossed it will work for others. I also noticed I would get a static electric shock when getting out of the car before I isolated them.
