Hi y'all. I've been on before 'bout vibration and got a couple of replies suggesting it may be the centre bearing on the prop shaft. I got a mechanic to check it out and he said he could find nothing that was obviously faulty with the bearing or any other joint or coupling. My question is, as I was going to order a new bearing and have it fitted as a process of elimination, would I be better fitting a new one piece prop shaft? Any pros and cons and also does anyone know the best place to source these. Cheers, S

if you have got hicas on the rear of your car did you check the hicas arms? my pass side arm had a little movement in the ball joint and caused that fitted a new one and all was well. i kept thinking it was the balance on the wheels.

 

an all in one can be a good upgrade , make sure you buy a quality product, dont skimp.

could also be rear gearbox mount

vibe thru the steering abt 50mph is usually wheel balance. check all the front and rear suspension bushes and balljoints too for play.

same problem with mine, since i done the centre bearing! i'm gonna try changin the prop.

I'm in Norn Iron as well, Portstewart, so hopefully we'll get it sorted. I'm gonna fit a all-in-one prop to see if it sorts the prob. Where 'bouts are you at?

have you even checked for play in the ball joints and bushes? before you randomly go replacing bits here there and everywhere?

I'm not much good on the mechanical front but am feeding my mechanic all the advice I'm getting here. He's always been 100% +with all my vehicles in the past, mostly 4WD's. He has checked everything in so far as he can without taking it apart but there is nothing obvious. I'll pass this suggestion as well. Many thanks.

WHere are you getting the vibration - Is it through the steering wheel, or through the base of your seat.

 

Base of seat indicatates Prop

- Centre bearing

- Rear gearbox mount

- Worn UJ's

 

Steering indicates a front suspension problem

- Wheels balance

- Warped brake disc

- Front suspension bushes (Tension arm bushes most common to give problem)

 

A problem with the rear suspension setup wont be felt so much, but possible causes there would be wheel balance, hicas arms, top suspension arm bushes collapsed.

It's at the base of the seat & can be felt through the drivers & passenger floor pan. I originaly thought, and hoped, it was the wheels but I had already bought new 17"'s and fitted these after getting them balanced the vib was still there. Comes in at 40mph and is a grating/vibration. Not so noticable at 60/70mph but is's still there. I was going to replace the centre bearing but someone told me the one piece prop shaft could be bought for almost the same price but as yet I haven't been able to source one. Could the gearbox mount def give the same symptons. I reckon this would be a much less expensive start to the process of elimination. Cheers

Me again folks. I'm going to get this problem sorted sooner rather than later as the vibration is getting worse. Suggestions have ranged from prop bearing to prop shaft to gear box mounts etc. Now that it is slightly worse I am getting a feel of a roughness or rasping that I would reckon would come from a kaput bearing so I will start with this and gear box mounts. My question now is, where is the best source for all this stuff. I live in NI and there are no zed specialists so if there is anyone who knows a good outlet PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. I had a similar problem and it was the prop shaft bearing. Once replaced, no problems. Do you notice it under hard acceleration?

I to have just developed this problem, can feel it through the driver seat and peddles starts at about 40mph but went at 50mph but now goes at about 60 or less noticable i can also hear a wa wa wa wa noise coming from the rear from 40+ that gets loader as speed increases, could be a wheel bearing possibly?

my vibration started when i replaced the centre bearing, which had lead me to believe it was prop balancing! i have changed the rear gearbox mount but must try it!

I have the same vibration and all bony fingers of shame point twards the centre support bearing, however you haven't mentioned something that happens on mine that could be significant: the vibration is only evident for the first few miles from a cold start, it goes away once warmed up. I'm in the same boat with not knowing what route to take; either new bearing or one piece shaft. Too many questions and not many answers....
