im going 2 buy new alloys with tyres but im not sure what 2 buy between 19in team dynamics drifz with avon f1 tyres at £1025 with nuts and balanced or 18in ultralite 755's with toyo or falken tyres and nuts and balanced at about £12 to £1300.

what would be the best mix and match and 4 money reasons would i be better off paying more at the start 4 the 18's or less 4 the 19's and then prob more l8r 4 bigger tyres.

have standard 300zx with no mod's and prob wont get wider arches at front or back, many thanks 4 helpin me with this puzzler. :headvswal

I think your ride would suffer on 19's and with those prices (bigger normally dearer) then I would assume the 19's are inferior quality. Future costs for tyres would also be greater on 19's. I personally recommend Falken tyres, good wear, good grip, good prices.

19s are to big mate, they affect your handling, speedo and cost a fortune to replace tyres, id see if u cant save yourself a few quid and get some 2nd hand wheels.

My 19's are a perfect size, have'nt affected handling (except in a postive way!) or ride(!) or the speedo(same overall circumference as stock) and came in at a reasonable price with tyres :D

Go for the 18s. Nicer wheels.

Look.

Its simple

Get yourself some 18 and stick the stickyest wet weather tyre out tehre. Cost effective wise is, when you dont need it to hit something it wont.

19's look sweet and nice for shows, but compromise the ride quality too much for my liking.

Ultra lites are just what they say. Ultra light. This helps with braking and brake wear as the inersher is less to stop, but I wouldn't go for Toyo's. IMO they are an average tyre and for the same money you can get a lot better. Avon F1's would be better than Toyos in the dry, but in the wet they are grade 2 ditch finders.

The Zed original OEM spec tyre was the Bridgestone S02 and has been OEM spec for most of the Porsches upto 2003. They are now only listed as Porscher fitment but still available. They are the best tyre ever to have on the Zed. Best wet grip good wear rate. Only the Yokohama's are better in the dry.

This I know from having clocked up 130K in my Zed over almost 7 years. I've tried most tyre makes and some that people on here have recomended I've got rid of after a week because they were crap. Everyone on here is saying Toyo and if the tyres they had on before were crap they'll seem good, but believe me they are only average.

Pilots, Pzeros and Bridgestone S03's are much better, but S02's are the best.

Tyres are the most important factor to improve handling and too many people cut corners.

I thought the same, however I went from 17" to 19" with no noticable affect on ride.....and I am ultra sensitive to ride quality !

I have also since transferred the 19" wheels to my NA, that was on stock 16" before, and yes it slightly firmer on bumps....but in all honestly its hardly anything..and the wife did'nt notice any difference at all.

I was very surpised at the ride quality !! I've been in plenty of other types of cars where bigger wheels have a very detremental affect on ride, but not the zed.

Unless is down to the Falken 452 tyres its wearing (since tyre choice does play a part in comfort)

btw - the 452's are briliiant (I had the most popular zed tyres before - Goodyear F1's)..and more and more zed owners are using them and saying they wont use anything else now.

Toyos are a great tyre and can be had for a great price, I swear by them at the moment. It's just a matter of personal opinion and taste like everything else!

What others have you tried? More to the point how hard do you drive?

I drive everything as though my arse is on fire even my Volvo and Ford Ranger and I find that Toyos quite frightening in the rain and go off fast if driven hard in the dry. Only good for 5 minutes serious twisties at high speed then start getting a bit loose.

I drive every car 'very' hard, but obviously not all the time. that is impossible, I have tried Goodyears, Michelins, Continentals, Falkens and more. In my opinion the Toyo Proxes is the best so far for me! I haven't found any of the problems that you say they give, it isn't just a question of tyres, it is a question of the total setup of the car. Obviously every car is set up differently, as you know, setup makes a hell of a difference to handling, not just tyres!

You aint driven any of mine and I do.

Set up will effect handling, but will not effect the charictor of a tyre though it can help to find its weekness. Setup cannot make a tyre grip in the rain if the compoung and tread design means the tyre cools too much in the wet and doesn't move enough water. Nor can it stop the tyre generating too much heat to hold form and apply proper grip went succesive high speed cornering (lateral movement) occures. Only Tyre construction and compound can. Driven hard the Michelins and goodyears will out perform the Toyos in my experience.

Always have mine set up quite a lot of negative camber -3 degrees on the rear and -2 on the front. 0 toe on the rear and - 30 minutes on the front with with plenty of negative castor to induce slight oversteer. This is an agresive set up and allows quick turn in so you can use a little drift to go through the corners faster, but Bridgestone S02's are the only tyre I've tryed apart from Yokohoma Track cut slicks that you can drive that hard even in the rain

Try them and I promise you'll see they really are the best tyre for the Zed.

Go for the 18's, less unsprung weight = better handling, acceleration, braking.
