hi all,

Just wondered if anyone can tell me what the difference in performance between the 350z and a standard 300zx TT, has anyone have or driven both?

I know the video on Top Gear and all that - but was that a Modded 300zx against a standard 350?

Just wondering..maybe in a few years i might want to get a 350..

Ed

I think the one on Top Gear was pretty standard - and faster than the 350Z

The 350 might be faster if it wasn't just a straight line race as the 300 would be on and off boost.

no, that was a 300zx with a boost leak against a 350z.

blimey..boost leak as well..hmmm..not too sure on the shape of the 350 either..

lad round the corner from me has one (he only looks about 12-and deffo isnt interested in my 300zx) , cant quite make my mind up on the looks of it..

Honestly, i love my zed but 15 years worth of updated engineering would see a 350z faster around a track than a standard zed. 350z handles really nicely IMHO stock, and should be faster around a track.

Drag style as top gear really, zed should win based on a decent start.

350 looks fat and bulky, it aint got the smooth lines and squat apperance as the 300, the 300 looks what it is, i just think nissan are trying to recreate a lost era of the z cars. the z32 was the end of that era and imo the ultimate z and went as far as it can go, they can never recreate this car, they should of left it as it was.

the 350 is ok if your an estate agent, who wears a pink shirt and beige trousers, not for me im affraid but each to his own.

I think it would have to be the skyline if i ever had to replace my 300 but thats my opinion

Nissan had no intentions of the 350Z being a more powerful and faster car than the 300ZX. Its just plain and simple the 350Z is a more modern car with better handling qualities and better comfort more tuned towards the present time. The companies of today are all more or less agreed to cap the performance to 150-155 MPH anyway. I should imagine that if the 350Z had been twin turbo'd then it would beat the 300 hands down? Pure speculation? The 300 will always remain the flagship sports car from Nissan. It was and in some cases still is a world beater.

All this of course is IMO.

:D :x: dont the s50z come with a compartment for scissors and hairspray? :D :x:

Whilst the styling is perhaps a little questionable (still a nice looker in the right colour though) and the straight line performance not quite up to a stock 300zxTT the 350Z is a superb drivers car.

Handling, gear change and brakes are spot on - although that is compared to a 15 year old 300zx. Upgrade the old worn parts on a 300 and there will be very little difference I'd say.

Having test driven one I was very impressed but I didn't buy one. The driving pleasure gained was not worth the £20k over the top of my 300 TBH.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

As Richard, I've also driven one.... and my opinion is that it is a fantastic car, but entirely in a different age! It is ten years newer than our Z32, and it shows. As for performance, it is an NA! It doesn't have two turbos. But it's still a damm fine car. The styling has grown on me, as I wasn't a fan straight off, but then I see more in terms of looks, and not performance, but that's just me. As opinions are like ass-holes, everyone has one

PS, I've actually driven two, the second one was a Gran-Tourismo!!!! ;)

its a fine car but i doubt it will stand the test of time like the Z32. It will be long forgotten and has no particularily unique attributes, i fear it will soon decline and in a few years whereas our cars stillstand out 350z will have been just another roadster imho

ive been in a 350Z the road holding was second to none, but the Z32 is deffo more powerfull!

The 350z is in a much lower price range to the 300zxTT so aimed at a completely different crowd. However if you take a look at performance car magazines reviews they rate it very highly. Its generally considered a little too brutish and performance orientated by the general public to achieve mass appeal. It outhandles the latest Audi TT in this months EVO magazine. I reckon it will be a more successful version of the 300zx which suffered badly from the British markets predjudices. The 350Z seems to have been more recognized as a high performance roadster by the general public than the zed was recognized for what it was in its day( near supercar or whatever?)

Also the 350Z will probably age better for the enthusiast of the future due to it not having the twin tubs, so I reckon the Zed marque has a bright future with the enthusiasts. IMO and all that :)

i drove a 350z before i bought my 300zx. i originally wanted a 350z, i have driven audi tts, slks, honda s2000, bmw m roadster and posche boxster. the 350z and boxster were my favorites followed by the s2000 and m roadster. i was all ready to buy a 350z, but for me i have always loved the 300zx since childhood even having toys and all, then i found my car, a 1992 with 36k, always garaged fnsh. i saw it, drove i and bought it the same day without having a 2nd thought of any of the other cars.

sure the 350z is an excellent handling car but once i install my nismo bushes, s-tune shocks and springs the handling should be pretty close too.

the nissan FM (front midship) platform is used in a few cars, the 350z, infinity g35, the SUV infinity fx35, murano and prob some others. my work colleague in the states has an infinity fx35 suv and it has the same power output as a 350z, 280-300bhp unlike the 240bhp murano.

just because the platform is used elsewhere means that its exactly the same on all of them, and you cannot deny that the 350z is one of the finest handling cars of the moment and is considered as such by all the motoring press apart from JC.

For me, I hold Tiff Needell's opinion highly, and he absolutely loves the 350z. However, he also did a 300zx promo video back in the day ;)

the 350z is an audi tt for men ...........hairy and quick , i like the retro modern styling harking back to the 260z , nothing wrong with it, if i could afford one i would buy one

and keep the 300, but then again id probably have the 350 supercharged ....enough is never enough ;))
