Help please, Whilst driving home 2 days ago the car lost power and seemed to develop a misfire.

It managed to get me home before completly dying and now will not start whatsoever, Engine turns over ok but will not fire into life?????????

The car was not hot and did not go over 40mph on this trip.

If anyone can suggest some starting points i would be greatful and if sensors are a poss problem please point out to me where to find them.

Also is it worth checking the ecu fault codes at all????

Cheers in advance.

Whats a ptu and are the codes via leds on the ecu?

ok thanks i'll try that

I know it's a long shot but try and wiggle the connections on either side of the ptu and see if it starts, or pull them off and clean the corrosion, if any. That's what helped me. If not then it's probably knackered which I think would show on the ecu test.

Right guys,

I have done the self check on the ecu and it says fault code 11 which i think is the c.a.s??

Ive taken off the connector and cleaned it up (was spotless anyway) but i cant check it as the batt is dead as a dodo now so is on charge, Has anyone else got any other ideas what to check? Where is the PTU located as i cant seem to see it.

Also would a CAS failure result in a loss of power then a cut out or would it generally just die instantly? i would have thought that a sensor failure would just die there and then?

I'm gutted at the moment with it off the road and my sergeant at the nick is getting cheesed off with me swopping shifts to obtain lifts too and from work!!!!!!!

Help is appreciated guys and thanks very much

Jase.

Ps has anyone got a CAS for sale or know where i can get one? (apart from dealer)

I can tell you from experiance a CAS fault can just cut out instantly, rather like the symptoms of a faulty PTU. Mine ws just a a dirty connector so I hope yours is the same ;)

Vijay

PTU is on the front of the engine, on the left hand side as you look at it.

Mine was under some pipe work, and was a silver box about the size of a fag packet. Has plugs from the top and underneath. Give em a wiggle, it was the same problem I encountered too.

Cheers guys i'll go and give em a wiggle in a mo (ooer!!!!)

this is getting me really cheesed off as ive had the zed for nearly 2 years and this is the first problem ive had with it!!!!

Damn............still struggling with this

ime sure the cas sends a single to the fuel pump relay as its turned so as the motors cranked check the relay is getting current to it :)

F*ck it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right this morning i have taken the PTU off and cleaned it all up and then i marked up the CAS and took that off and cleaned it all.

Still wont f*cking start!!! Ive re checked the ECU and code 11 is still coming up so i spose the CAS must be well and truly shagged, Battery has been off for 18 hours so ECU ma

must have been reset a treat so i am utterly gutted.

Can anyone help me with a replacement CAS unit at all to get to me by wednesday or thursday at all? or know where i can try?

Am desperate now

Cheers guys

i could be wrong here but i dont think a faulty cas would cause the car not to start unless it died completly get some charge in yer battery remove cas turn ignition on and turn the cas by hand see if each injector is clicking

Fraid if the CAS is dead, car will not deffo start, it sends a signal to the ecu when TDC is detected which then returns the signal for the injectors to fire.

To test cas, remove and slowly turn the spindle at the rear ( with ignition on) and listen for the injectors clicking, if no clicking then it's dead.

Second hand are only cheap fortunately, if you want one to try I can send you one tomorow, just send back with postage cost if when done, fraid i don't wanna sell it though, handy for a spare :)
