Hi everyone,

I've had my Z for mearly 3 months now and I love everything about her except for the REALLY harsh ride. I know when a car is lowered on aftermarket suspension you should expect a harsher ride but when I say harsh I mean really harsh! It's harsh to the point that hitting a stone in the road nearly lifts the car off the road.

I took the car to a mechanic guy I know and he had the car on the ramps and he said there are no problems with the suspension except for the fact that he said the setup was extremely stiff. The suspension is Tein coilovers although I've no idea which model etc. He told me the only way I can fix the ride is to completely replace the suspension (shocks/springs). I really don't wanna have to do that since one of the reasons I bought the car is it had many of the improvements I would of made already done.

Can anyone help me at all by suggesting a way of fixing the harshness of the ride without replacing the entire suspension setup?

The shocks are adjustable in height but apparently not in hard/softness as far as he could see.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

They may be adjustable for damping, mine are not Tein, but the adjustment is on the top of the shock.

Tein (most models) are a very good suspension but mostly track orientated. Lots of people find them too stiff for the road. Maybe you could swap with someone? or if you can find what model they are you'll probably be able to get enough to pay for some new softer ones. Smithy does the kyb ones for £300. Tein are very expensive to buy so you may get enough.

if they have no ajustment then there is no ajustment so only option is to replace with half decent nissan oem or go for new setup, what else can you do ?

when i bought my tt i had exactly the same problem they were tein coilovers ride height was adjustable but not the dampning,i spoke to tein and they said some of their coilovers were not adjustable. The ride on mine was the same as yours so hard it made the car really unpleasent to drive, fantastic on the track but no good for the road,i bought a set of springs and shocks off andyz and fitted them myself in two hours, what a differance the car know drives and feels great, all together it cost £150 the best money i could have spent then if your want to lower it later get some lowering springs and kyb's .

I think you probably have tein HA or HR .I have tein flex with ajustable damping still quite hard on the softest setting ,HA and HR dont adjust the only option is to put softer pound rating springs on these are avalible from any tein dealer or as said go back to uprated shocks and lowered springs.

It really is a bummer. You would expect that with a good brand name such as Tein you would be getting good suspension. I guess the suspension is good, just not suitable for nasty UK roads :/
