I feel like a plonker....I know from other people in my company that have had grief with their laptops and software, but I have not had any problems with mine, maybee its a hardware problem.....but as you say Retro pc's are a nightmare.

Tbh i think it might be an incompatibility problem with different types of USB manufacturer, I have a couple of memory sticks that i use at work for transfering files around on non-networked computers and there are 2 machines which wont recognise one of them but are happy with the other. The computers are all identical Compaq Evo`s which makes it even weirder.

Do you know anyone who has a cable you could borrow? At least this way you can eliminate whether is a faulty cable, or something to do with the software.

You do need your Zed running when you try to connect datascan to your ECU.

Lastly, if you're still having no luck. Uninstall it from your laptop, and install again. You may have done something wrong when installing it the first time. Good luck.

Has anybody had any luck with this? I'm having the same problem :( .

I actually read what was on here before i tried anything, so i let windows find the drivers off the web(which it did), then plugged it in, started the Z, and it won't connect. The cable looks installed properly on the laptop, the port settings are right. Don't know what to try. is it something like the parity or the stop bit on the port?

Any help appreciated..

i tried again today, spent an hour again but still no joy. Got another member bringing a serial cable to see if that works. His setup works so i will try and connect it to my car. I am not a stranger to computers so there must be something more to this than meets the eye. Will keep you all posted.

Serial cable worked first time. Seems to be an issue with USB.

Hmm. leaves me in a quandry, as my laptop doesn't have serial ports. hmm :headvswal

If yours is a newer laptop with USB2 ports you might be ok. Mine is an old shed (P500, 128Mb, 20Gb, 15", USB1) so it might be that which is causing the problem.

People have had the usb connection working. Have a word with Legrath (dave)
